This is one of the most spectacular photo shoots I’ve seen lately, and, to my big surprise, it involves a movie star I’m not too fond of. This is not to say that I dislike her, she just leaves me indifferent most of the times.
But it’s not the case with this Interview March 2013 situation. Rooney Mara, as photographed by Mikael Jansson is striking! The entire pictorial is dramatic and clearly looks specifically tailored for Rooney. Under the name ‘Side Effects’, this photo story accompanies an interview with the actress conducted by the great Steven Soderbergh!
If the title of the pictorial is any indication, Side Effects is Steven Soderbergh’s latest movie, also rumored to be his very last, starring the young and talented Miss Rooney here. As I haven’t yet seen the movie, I’m happy the interview – which is now available online – didn’t have too many spoilers but a lot of sarcasm instead.
Too bad it looks staged and a bit forced. But I guess Rooney has to look as she’s been forced into talking so she wouldn’t look / feel like such a bland character. Then again, Soderbergh is grand either way and could crush Miss Mara. I admit I’m a bit saddened by his premature retirement – I’m sure, as this new (last) movie will prove, he has grand things in mind and now he’s purposely holding them back. Do you think it’s possible that this would only be a marketing trick?

This is a lovely set of photos!
And I do really like Rooney Mara, she has a quiet intensity to her. She is one of my favourite new actors.
Beautiful indeed. I felt a Hitchcockian mood in some of them, particularly on the number 5.
