We narrowly avoided the controversy during the Victoria’s Secret 2012 Fashion Show (you know, the famous Native American headpiece worn by Karlie Kloss) and here we are, gloriously stepping into another! Charlotte Casiraghi participated to the Gucci Paris Jumping equitation competition wearing – what else – Gucci!
All sounds perfect, especially since Charlotte Casiraghi is actually Gucci’s spokesperson too. Except Charlotte went for a Native American themed look with a Gucci assorted feathered headpiece. I can absolutely appreciate the fashion driven force behind Charlotte’s competition outfit but I think it lacks sensitive intelligence and historical / canonical righteousness.
It will most certainly end up in sincere apologies and pledges to not repeat that kind of inspirational affront ever again. But what I can understand from all this mess is that we’re growing ever more shallow vis-à-vis our cultural references, ever more selfish in our impulses. Lack of time? Lack of interest? Lack of empathy or good will? Is our society cutting itself from its roots? And if so, why is that? I realize it’s a lot to ask for in a fashion – related topic, but if you would indulge me and debate with me a while, it would actually ease some restless questions buzzing around in my head. And in my heart. (images Getty; via)
