Supermodels Do British Fashion At The Olympics Closing Ceremonies: Why The Hate?

The Supermodels who walked the Olympic Stadium catwalk for the Closing Ceremonies of the 2012 London Olympics received so many hateful remarks, it’s hard to understand what’s the world’s take on fashion!

In short: some of the world’s most acclaimed supermodels come from the United Kingdom. As such, for the 2012 Olympics Closing Ceremony, the GB has put together an impressive show (and I thought the Opening Ceremony was breathtaking!) where they invited so many great musicians hailing from the UK! They made it all so modern, so young! I really loved their approach both of the opening and the closing show!

British fashion plays an impressive part in the global fashion industry and it was really nice to see some real fashion, not the leotard kind at the Olympics! So: great British designers were given a super model for a muse, one that’ll be wearing a representative design from their collections at the 2012 Olympics Closing Ceremony! Supermodels Olympics Closing Ceremony

Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Karen Elson, Lily Cole, Lily Donaldson, Stella Tennant, Jourdan Dunn, Georgia May Jagger and David Ghandi proudly walked the improvised catwalk wearing the clothes previewed in a Vogue UK pictorial, in the magazine’s September 2012 issue. The theme was “Midas Touch”, hence all the golden and glitter involved.

Two dresses from Alexander McQueen – on Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss, Karen Elson wore Burberry, Lily Cole wore Erdem, Stella Tennant wore Christopher Kane, Jourdan Dunn wore Jonathan Saunders and Stephen Jones headpiece, Georgia May Jagger wore Victoria Beckham, Lily Donaldson wore Vivienne Westwood while David Ghandi wore a Paul Smith suit.

British Fashion Segment Olympics

However, as glamorous and as beautiful as they wore, the supermodels involved in the British Fashion segment of the Closing Ceremonies were harshly commented (always on Twitter, people always get courageous on Twitter) by the viewers. And their obsession over how thin the models were (in comparison with the athletes who participated in the Olympic Games) is just as unhealthy as any other form or racism.

These are models! Wake up, people! It’s their job to look like that just as any other atlhete’s job is to muscle up for their job! I doubt the brave women who made us so proud during the competitions could walk endless catwalk miles in skyscraping heels like these models can! To each its own! One chose sport, the other chose fashion and so forth. Why all the hate? I was really disappointed to read the bad reactions to the British Fashion segment, all the remarks about illegal substance use (as if sportsmen or the musicians who participated in the Closing Ceremonies were really squeaky clean) or about the girls IQ (clearly unaware of Lily Cole’s academic studies). Why the grudge?

Bravo Kpriss! I loved it and it was way too short. I bet a lot of female athletes (and we know that for a fact) love fashion as well. Fashion: this is where the Britons are good at and it’s an important part of their history so I was pleased to hear David Bowie’s ‘Fashion’ and just knew: “here come the girls!!”.

I have not read hatred Twitter comments. But I have read Hadley Freeman and she did disappoint me a lot. As did some nice guys on FB about the Spice Girls who were fun. I did not expect a vocal gold performance but a fun one and it was a fun. Victoria looked awesome and seemed happy she was part of the show.

I was so glad to watch it by myself so no one could bother me with bad remarks. The English models were beautiful and Jourdan Dunn walked like a Queen!

Great piece girl! All true. I came here with hope you would say something positive and there was nothing but you were still busy while I read your other hard and fun work. Thank you! :*

(bow) thank you!

Since we loved the Opening Ceremony so much, it would’ve been unfair to miss the Closing Ceremony! Especially since they were doing fashion as well ;)

Had to say something, I couldn’t believe my eyes when I read they were trashing the models like that!
