Would You Pay $200,000 For A Hermes Birkin Bag?

Because I sure as heck wouldn’t! I know it’s Christmas and all, but come on? $203,150 for a bag?

At a recent auction that took place in Dallas, Texas, a particular Hermes Birkin bag made from red alligator skin and equipped with precious hardware (18k white gold paved with diamonds) was sold for no less than six figures (I refuse to write that price again, it’s scandalous!). Someone must have been on top of Santa’s “Good” list! (wink)

I don’t even sell bags that expensive. lol In fact, that’s more than I could afford for a house right now. haha

Its all relative I suppose. To someone in Texas or Russia or China who has a few $billions this may seem normal as chilling as that may sound.
Awhile back I read about a Kelly croc & gold bag that went for €350,000.
I’d rather have the cheque for that sum thank you. I think us lesser mortels would rather catch up on our bills with it than on a bag that personally I would be too nervous to parade out in public for fear of snatch thieves.

Exactly DollyBird! No way, I would parade around with this bag! I even leave far, far lesser priced but great bags home at night. It’s not safe anymore on the streets these days and I even my pin/credit cards home too!! Just some money in a bag…Also funny you mentioned certain country names…:))
But gimme the money any day. I know what to do with it and that’s not walking around with the skin of a reptile used for hedonism. Ugh….

*leave my bank pin/creditcards home* and just take some money with me.

I still like to know is why is this bag sold for that price? The white gold & diamonds???

Riana unless I’m wrong I believe it was auctioned off to the highest bidder. The buyer is probably a rich collector with label complex or someone who wants to spoil his already spoilt wife or a maybe even an oil baron’s bored wife with some loose change handy.

Or a rich Arab’s wife; they do hide a lot under these long black hiding dresses. Inside their houses it’s more glamorous than the four of us together shall ever experience!

Wow, jealous much? People have the money and they buy things. They don’t always buy houses and yachts and jets. Sometimes they might things that are aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Like the Faberge eggs, or a precious stamp. Or in this case, a gorgeous Birkin bag with diamonds. It’s money well spent. Get with it.

@Madison Chua, no one here is jealous.
You obviously have different values then the majority of the posters here.
I myself find it rather sad that in a world where many people have no medical care, women have no reproductive rights, children are made to fight wars or be child labourers for little to no money at all, that you think this is money well spent.
I love beautiful things as well which is why I chose the art world as my professional place, but it is all good in its place but when it is a choice between spending money on something like this Birken bag or helping others with the cash I would choose helping others every time.
I am sure that who ever has bought this bag is happy with it.
But to quote Bjork from one of my favourite songs by her “There is more to life than this.”
Get with it.

Really people do buy all that stuff? So they support our economy? Or not? Not sure they do you see! : D :P
