I’m always amazed by the work put into the haute couture garments. However, if I had no seen the pictures from Valentino’s Fall 2011 Haute Couture collection on the original website, I would’ve never guessed the treasures you can discover at a closer inspection! Take for instance the gray hued dress below – the lil’ white dots you see on it? They’re white pearls sewn to the dress!
And the most overwhelming, in my view, was the dress worn by Jourdan Dunn. At a first sight you wouldn’t understand there’s something really amazing about that gown. But when she turned, my eyes were delighted with the most precious, sweet detail: mimicking (I guess) a spine’s bones connections, bows were attached to the dress. It looked scary and gorgeous at the same time! (click here to see the images! and don’t miss the video after the jump!)
However, if I would have to state my humble opinion about the show in its entirety, I’d say there was hardly anything original to it. Pier Paolo Picioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri managed to borrow key elements from Missoni (the opening piece), Chanel (some of the austere suits that followed), Calvin Klein (the simple, boring dresses with no other sartorial finesse other than their own fabric) and I’m sure you will notice even more references than my untrained eye. And given that last season’s show had a stunner red dress, this time we have two (from which one is velour). Lovely collection, though, uber – sheer dresses, very delicate constructions and very bridal. (more images here)
