Jane Fonda, Susan Sarandon, Sigourney Weaver, V68 Winter 2010

How do you feel each and every time you read “fabulous at every / any age” as a magazine cover title? Fashion wise? How do keep up with fashion when it’s raining wrinkles? Should we be more concerned about experiencing emotions that will eventually be shown on our faces or about the latest designers collections?

I’m puzzled, you see… And I think fashion magazines don’t really help take out the pressure. V Magazine’s Winter 2010 2011 68th issue, however, is pretty inside and out. Starting with the amazing, aaaahhhmaaaazing-aaah covers: Jane Fonda, Sigourney Weaver, Susan Sarandon? And continuing with the content: Charlotte Rampling, Amanda Lear? (more right after the jump! click here for the gallery!)

Will the magazine reach its ordinary twenty to thirty, forty something audience while channeling sixty through seventy year old women? I’m sure it will! People who, like me, feel the need for a serious reality check for fashmagazines editors, who just like me, think there’s surely more to a cover than “fabulous at every age” and, who just like me, feel the blessing of growing gracefully old, unlike the botox driven personalities out there who fear the faintest smile will sink their careers and so forth.

Have the photos received the Photoshop treatment? Sure they did! There’s no harm in smoothing a line here and there. It’s a magazine cover, after all, what would you expect? They want people to buy the magazine, not run from it. Either way, I’m loving this V issue, I think it’s by far the most interesting magazine issue this year! What’s it like for you?

Aww, love you comment mdinah! :)

These are the sixties girls in their own sixties. The free spirit women. Thank God they’re still around. Loves V they honoured these gorgeous women. Even with the photoshop.

Jane Fonda (72!) but still the one and only Barbarella and later in life some other better, great parts. “Hanoi Jane”, Angelina must have found some inspiration in her as a well as in Susan, the one and only Louise and as well all her other great parts. Easily one of my fave actors.
And Ripley the most iconic heroin of the screen to me. She looked so gorgeous in her t-shirt and au-naturel. I love Sigourney.
Saw of late a great movie with Charlotte Rampling. A French movie where older women are appreciated in serious parts. And who can forget “The Night Porter”?
And Amanda Lear? I regularly admire the cover of the second Roxy Music album which I love. Iconic albums these first two. Amanda is still going strong.
I bow for these women. I believe as mdinah does: I’ve to buy all of these V’s too. :)

Oh dear and I was not ready yet.
Cause you ladies who read this and see this women: get inspired. You’re not old and out at 40! A long life to go of if you’re blessed to become “old” like them. We’ve to get rid of the new misogyny! Fight it!!
