How about taking a moment and marking down this day in the calendar? Pretty please? Because, my daaahlings, today is the day I’ll sing a praise to Marc Jacobs and one of his collections – the Spring Summer 2011 one! (if we’re to answer that “new black” question: seventies is the new black!)
Yes, yes, I took the time to watch and marvel myself at the glory of commercial couture that was Marc Jacobs’ collection. Because it was worth every minute of it! I’ll start by saying the collection is very well put together, very coherent, even overwhelmingly simple and coordinated. I loved the colors. Then I’ll go on saying that I loved the fabrics, I love the silhouettes, I loved the hair (how could I not? It makes my worse hair day look like heavy styling!) and most of all I loved the accessories (the hair flowers, the neck flower choker necklaces and the huge butterfly-ish belts, bonus the tiny purses and the chunky heeled platform sandals!). (more images right after the jump, plus the catwalk video)
Overall a 70s seriously inspired collection (you’ll be surprised to learn that Marc Jacobs actually wore pants for his bow, taking the designer catwalk with a serious step easily impended by the 70s high heels shoes and dramatically charged by the all-black outfit he had on. Shirt and pants for Marc Jacobs, daaahlings! The world is going through some serious changes!
The only thing I have to ask is if anyone noticed that it was a collection made for slim silhouettes. The way those fabrics flow, the linear prints, the key details placements? I may be shadowed by my 70s prejudgemental perspective: willowy bodies with long hair (forget the bleached eyebrows, that’s a no-go). Now I’ll actively rest and watch the show again, and again – tell me – how do you feel about Marc Jacobs Spring Summer 2011 collection? (you can see images with the entire collection here)

The styles, the colours and the whole feel of it… FABU!
I love all of it!
Marc Jacobs makes lovely things for women. :)
I think that certain elements can be adapted for all body types.
Biba+ Halston+YSL(70ies)+Sonia Rykiel(70ies)= Marc Jacobs
I liked the colors and the clothes are pretty indeed BUT (there is always a but…) LITERAL copy is an homage, lack of creativity or plain theft?
homage, daaahling, homage! duh! ;)
Haha, thought the same as mdinah but I don’t mind. Indeed homage, daaahling homage. LOL! It doesn’t bother me at all when the theft works and it looks new and fresh. As this show does. I’m also surprised. Why thanks for posting my fave look: the purple pants and tight stripey jumper and hat: lovely, wannahave!
I loved Victoria Beckham\s collection too. Not really renewing too but great snit, simple and very elegant. Well done Victoria!
Can’t help to say it: feed those walking clotheshangers please and another plea: what’s wrong with a smile and some individuality on the catwalk? It worked fine until the zero’s….I also like to see real women again. Watched a great documentary about Isabella Rossellini last night who started her career at 25. That’s almost the end nowadays….
ok girls, I admit.. so far it was the most beautiful show.
:)
