Fool’s Gold Nadine

How was your weekend? Marvelous, I trust! With Fashion Week already on a roll, I imagine your inner fashionista is getting some royal treats! Thank you for being with me again another amazing week, thank you for your great and insightful comments! I hope the week to come will be your best so far!

You know we had this emotionally charged weekend – years have passed but people will always remember 9/11. I though I’d bring you something different for this week’s break. Something… international. Fool’s Gold with Nadine. Give it a try and tell me what you think. (more info right after the jump!)

Fool’s Gold comes from Los Angeles and brings together a handful of cultures and musical traditions (African, Ethiopian, Eritrean, Malian). The band is composed of Luke Top and Lewis Pesacov, Erica Garcia, Garrett Ray, Matt Popieluch, Orpheo McCord, Michael Tapper, Salvador Placencia, Jimmy Vincent, Amir Kenan and Brad Caulkins. Their first album, Fool’s Gold was released about a year ago (September 29 2009) and Nadine is a relevant sample of what these guys can do.

The video was directed by Tom Petty’s daughter (Adria Petty), filmed on location at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery and features the musicians surrounded by dead people, trying to achieve this higher level of conscience where we’d all be celebrating together, regardless the oh-so-many factors that differentiate us and keep us so far apart. ( I wish I could understand the lyrics – unfortunately, I have no knowledge of Hebrew so I can only appreciate the tune from a musical/visual perspective. However, I get a really good feeling when listening to it and I hope you will too!)

Great music, great song. Loves mixed cultures. I also never heard of Fools Gold so that’s a nice surprise. Don’t mind I can’t understand the lyrics, the vibe is great.

May all those who lost or survived 9/11 and any other terrorist attack on a daily basis be remembered. And may all their loved ones find peace at some point.

Happy you like them! So I’m not the only one feeling those good waves when playing this catchy tune! Great! I’ll keep scooping around then! Seems we share some musical tastes ;)

Adriana – you asked about Karen Elson getting air time? Yep she does, especially with that Lunasa song I included in that HB article! It’s such a wonderful piece! So does Ray Lamontagne (remember him from some Friday Break a while back?)

Kpriss, I love it that you’ve such a eclectic music taste. As I do. We rock, we love romantic music or music like this. We just love great music and are not close minded towards genres, Yes, I noticed the Karen songs you posted of course. I can sing that album along haha…that’s how often I played it and now my neighbour on the other side of the street purchased it too. Bazaar is still not available but it is in a few weeks. I see that teaser all the time above….
Forgot Ray Lamontagne but I searched it and add to my faves on YouTube: I’m still strongly behind my opinion back then. :)
