I know this should’ve been done Friday, on our usual Friday Break time, but even so, how could you refuse a good piece of soul music? Unforgettably perfect, impossible to outfashion, The Temptations’ My Girl!
Thanking you for this beautiful week, for your great comments, I hope you’re having a wonderful weekend time! Enjoy My Girl, The Temptations! (more information after the jump!)
I was hoping to share this (again) romantic moment with you Friday, but complications got in the way of my touching my faithful laptop and sharing this wonderful piece of music with you. (the short version: we were invited to a wedding this Saturday and it was a non-children thing. So we had to make all necessary arrangements which, of course, like all perfectly timed and thoroughly calculated arrangements, got blown right in our faces and then we had to make a second set of arrangements which, luckily, worked out marvelously so.. we’re back up and fully functioning).
Now, getting back to this timeless Temptations piece! It was, of course, featured on a motion picture original soundtrack. But that’s not even close to why I chose it. I chose this song because I miss kind, romantic pieces of music that’ll tone down the punk-rock dimension of love nowadays. (and that’s not in any contradiction with my rocker hearted self! Au contraire! Soul and blues are the roots to any rhythm out there!) My Girl was first recorded in 1964 by The Temptations. Written and produced by Smokey Robinson and Ronald White (from The Miracles), My Girl was inspired by Robinson’s wife (Claudette Rogers Robinson, from The Miracles) but composed for David Ruffin’s (the Temptation’s lead vocal) outstanding voice.
Reaching high in U.S pop charts (number one single in Billboard Hot 100, 1965), My Girl was included by the Rolling Stone magazine in the list of 500 greatest songs of all time (at number 88, in 2004). It was covered by numerous artists, including Michael Jackson and featured in movies (starting with the 1991 My Girl – you can watch the video here) and TV series. But no other words (but the songs actual lyrics) cannot express the simple and so amazing My Girl message! What can I say, I’m having my romantic, marriage-anniversary month… (besides, I really can’t do better and I don’t wish for more than my simple, love full life alongside my loving husband!)

There are so many great songs, great music used in movies. The list is endless. I’m often waiting at the end of a movie for the credits because of the music
I don’t want to be a party pooper but nothing can beat The Temptations’ “Papa Was a Rolling Stone” to me…..
P.S. Never really understood why Ruffin had to leave the band? Anyone knows? He was THE man!
This is a lovely choice Kpriss!
Thanks for this and I do hope that the wedding that you attended was a stellar affair. :)
I’m happy you found it lovely too!
Adriana, to keep it short – Ruffin was the man and he knew that oh to well! His ego caused frictions in the band, his fame-associated addictions and the frictions led to the inevitable split from the band that brought him to such ego
heights… Papa Was A Rollin Stone is such a beautiful tune, indeed!
Oh, thanks Ellington, I love weddings! I love celebrating love ;)
Thanks Kpriss now I don’t need to google that up. Jajaja, what’s new with great singers and their ego’s…..Ruffin was a great singer though.
