Us3 Cantaloop (Flip Fantasia)

Earlier this week I heard this tune on the radio while I was driving around running errands. My husband asked me what it was and so I remembered how much I loved Us3’s Cantaloop (Flip Fantasia)!

I hope you had a great week, thank you for being here, I wish you all a wonderful weekend, enjoy Us3 Cantaloop! (more about the song right after the jump!)

Cantaloop (Flip Fantasia) was composed and recorded by Mel Simpson and Geoff Wilkinson, Us3 (with Kobie Powell, the vocalist) in the early 90s (part of the record Hand on the torch, 1993). The song is originally based on a jazz sample composed and performed by the brilliant jazzman Herbie Hancock called Cantaloupe Island (part of the album Empyrean Isles released in 1964). You can listen to the original Cantaloupe Island here.

Cantaloop (Flip Fantasia) brought Us3 to unbelievable success, becoming one of the biggest selling albums ever for the label (Blue Note). Those were the days of true hip hop artists! (via)
