Something makes Annie Leibovitz‘ pictures so epic and fantastic that I just can’t help but finding her work amazing!
Her last pictorial features this year’s Oscar nominees in an actor-director duo for the Hollywood Issue of Vanity Fair. “Something Just Clicked” has that Leibovitz magic enlisting her photos from The Hollywood Portfolio in the art category. (after the jump, don’t miss the rest of the pictures, photos and a video from behind the scenes at this very exclusive Hollywood Portfolio, Oscar 2009 nominees!)
I haven’t seen all the movies selected for this year’s Oscars. I plan too, but for now I’m running heavily behind. That doesn’t stop me from getting into the unspoken magic of these photographs!
Fresh and unexpected duo Danny Boyle and Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire) caught together in a picture called The Dickensians; odd, risky couple Darren Aronofsky and Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler) impersonate The Ringers; real life couple Sam Mendes and Kate Winslet (Revolutionary Road) form The Partnership; the subversives Gus Van Sant and Sean Penn (Milk) are The Milk Men.
The poetic energy coming from Penelope Cruz and Woody Allen (from the enchanting Vicky Cristina Barcelona) make The Odd Couple; the four-times-reunited team Ron Howard and Tom Hanks (Angels & Demons) are The Classicists; the epic Nicole Kidman and Baz Luhrman (Australia) are The Colonists; the queen of all drama queens Meryl Streep and John Patrick Shanley (Doubt) are The Undoubted (she even got herself a dress for the occasion!).
The impressively unexpected Christopher Nolan and RIP Heath Ledger (The Dark Knight) are The Risktakers; Clint Eastwood (Changeling) is The Old Hand. Such amazing stories, such grand lens to picture them all together! (You can read the entire story here) Which one is your favorite Oscar runner up? (the complete list of nominees for the 2009 Oscars is here)

Mickey Rourke and Darren Aronofsky! I’ve watched that vid 6/7 times? Flame away, I don’t care, but I love bad boy Mickey. There’s something so sexy about a man who thanks his dogs for helping him to survive. Still under that damage there’s still the Mickey Rourke I once loved and I’m thankful to the marvelous Darren Aronofsky he wanted Mickey in this film.
No, I haven’t seen the The Wrestler yet. Release date is February 22 here…..but someone who knows me very, very well and has seen the preview has said: “That’s your film, you’re gonna love it and you’re gonna cry. So go to the matinee and take your sunglasses with you!”
So thanks so much for this Kpriss! How can I ‘rip’ that vid?
I look at the rest of the photos later……..
Aahhh, I was so under the spell of Mickey that I didn’t notice I could email this vid….ouch!
I love also:
Ron Howard and Tom Hanks
Gus van Sant and Sean Penn
Clint Eastwood
Christopher Nolan and Heath Ledger (Lived fast, died young, R.I.P.)
Sorry, me again, I’m gonna definitely buy that Vanity Fair, its a wannahave! Its also the Obama issue.
You are so cute Adriana. : )
I always look forward to Annie Leibovitz’s annual photographic Hollywood jaunt. The photos are always fun to look at.
Adriana, I’m so glad you liked it! I hope The Wrestler will indeed meet your expectations! (I’m not Mickey’s biggest fan, I admit!).
Ellington, you’re right! I’m always fascinated by Annie’s epic-photography. Whenever she has to tell a story, she’s doing it wonderfully!
Kpriss, I had the feeling you’re not a Mickey fan plus he smokes in that vid! So that’s why I was at first flabbergasted you’d publish this and therefore I appreciated it even more.
(But it was also the most interesting vid. I found the other ones too.)
…..and I’ve bought this Vanity Fair today and its really a great issue! Its expensive here but its worth every € I’ve spent on it as a movie lover.
Why does Sam Mendes have a coat on his arm that is around Kate, but not the other arm? haha!
LOL! We must have been blind! Yes, what’s that?? Hahahaha…….
