So: how should I put this? Rooney Mara is just so very… distant. And cold. And still, she seems to have sneaked & got stuck under Anna Wintour’s skin. I imagine that if Noomi Rapace would’ve been American, she’d be on the cover of this Vogue US February 2013 issue.
Because as hard as I’m trying to see her in some other role, Rooney is still The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. And will remain so until her new movie, Side Effects, hits theaters this February. But I somehow doubt that role will erase her previous dark one from everyone’s minds.
David Sims photographed Rooney for this American issue but still didn’t pulled out more charm or warmth from Miss Mara here. She looks cold as ice and she’s just as vibrant and as appealing as a deep freezer is. The inside pictorial doesn’t help either. But I think I understand why Anna went with this somber, tragic look: the issue must’ve been prepared or masterminded during or in the immediate aftermath of Superstorm Sandy.
At that particular time, I can imagine why Anna didn’t want a smiling, friendly face looking back at us from the newsstands. However, if the very American essence lies in ‘skin experts’, ‘cool, sexy nights out’ and ‘bags of the moment’, there’s not a single brain left for Sandy & her kind to wash out!

Different strokes for different folks, I guess. I love the cover and also the photo shooting.
She looks so fragile.
I am glad that Vogue didnt try to put her in its standarized va-va-voom kind of beauty.
Besides, the other option for this cover was the heinous Kate here-is-my -b**bs- on -your -face Uptown. I couldnt bear that. Could you ?
I understand fragile. but relevant? (oh, and if I had to choose between her cover and a hypothetical Kate Upton one, I wouldn’t hesitate, you’re right!) How about Jennifer Lawrence? Doesn’t have the body? Because she sure has the movie / awards coverage…
I believe Rooney says in the interview as I read somewhere “I didn’t want to become a fashion icon”. I’d never pick up she was a fashion icon? Did I miss something? I believe she’s dressed by a stylist. And there was the H&M line….based on her role not Noomi’s. Also my girl. I like her acting before the famous trilogy.
The “other girl with the dragon tattoo” though had an interesting personal style created by herself. Mixing her (ex) husband’s clothes with her own. No, she wasn’t a fashion icon either. And why she should be one? She’s an actor.
I do not dislike the cover and photo shoot. Rooney has a model-esque look.
I like this cover. I think she looks lovely and the photos are great.
Cold? No I do not find these photos cold at all. And I am happy that it is not an actor of the moment with something to promote or push for on the cover.
I am beyond tired of that deal.
I like the pictures inside. The cover not really!
She’s interesting. I like her , she looks sweet and humble.
