Few years already we’re abusing the “supers are back” slogan to a point of complete waste of meaning, of significance.
It would be both an understatement and an exaggeration to say that Harper’s Bazaar March 2010, the US edition with Kate Moss on the cover or Harper’s Bazaar March 2010, the UK edition with Cindy Crawford on the cover were disappointing and small. (the story continues with more images right after the jump, click here for the gallery!)
The sexiest super, Cindy Crawford, is back! That’s what everyone can read on the cover of the British Harper’s Bazaar. Ok. So who’s the Ugly Duck from them all? There’s an obvious psychological trap in stating that Cindy is the sexiest supermodel. Then? Now? We don’t know that, we’re not told and we hope we won’t really pin the sexiest and the ugliest model ever.
I’m happy that nontraditional fashion magazines decided to feature models (or supermodels) on their fashion issues covers (which seems like a pretty reasonable choice given they represent the industry) and the “fashion Bible” (aka Vogue) prefers celebrity covers. Oh well, one can’t have everything. Now getting back to our magazines: Harper’s Bazaar US seems to be completely over its head with Mossexcitement. They suddenly love everything Kate as to photograph miss Moss like they see it. Like they think she would be. Wearing what they think she’d wear. Doing what they think she’d usually do. Hence the two male models in a bed behind her. Why do I get the feeling that Madge’s wave carried Harper’s boat this issue? Fueled by an uncanny but undeniable Lohan similarity?
Cindy, the sexiest super is back in time for Harper’s UK cover story and Harper’s US white editorial. The thing is I can’t bring myself to dislike Cindy. She’s looking healthy, determined and strong minded, everything a woman should be in order to feel great in her own skin. and life. That minus the Botox and you pretty much sum a real woman equation in my eyes. She’s not taking the spotlight by storm, she’s quietly following her life alongside her family and that’s perfectly fine! Putting Cindy next to Coke Moss doesn’t feel right. And still: two fashion issues. Two magazines, two models! Ladies and gents, this spring (drum roll please!) Cindy Crawford and Kate Moss fight for the most super super! Who’s gonna win?
