Who is Bruno Torf? He’s an artist, born in South America and moved to Australia after traveling Europe up and down, wanting to bring his dream to life.
The Victorian village of Marysville (95 km from Melbourne) was the perfect place to develop Bruno’s wish to create a sculpture garden. He bought a property (including a generous piece of sub-alpine forest) and after five months of hard work, he opened to the public Bruno’s Art & Sculpture Garden.
Besides having a gallery with 200 artworks (paintings, sketches and small sculptures) from allover Europe, the garden had fifteen life sizes sculptures. That was then, this is now – over 115 pieces and constantly adding.
It seems that fantasy meet real life is becoming a serious trend in artistic circles. I wouldn’t mind having an over night metamorphosis and waking up to a dream world where people stop throwing things everywhere, where for every cut tree, five more would be planted instead, where instead of paying $100 000 for a handbag, donating the same amount for research purposes so maybe, one day, a less environment damaging fuel gets worldwide usage for our vehicles and so on and so on.
But until that day, I’ll just dream about a better future and do my part of environment-consciousness (plus take some time to admire these fantastic artistic creations)…

This garden makes me smile, even a kind of happy that there’s still awareness for the most precious thing we need and the people after us: Mother Earth…..
These are amazing statues and carvings. Truly a dream world that one could get lost in quite easily. It is so nice to realize that there are people who do make fairytale characters come to lfe.

Hello! I ‘ve trawled the entire web for inspiring outdoor sculptures, and yours are by far the most exciting yet. I’m a wannabe sculptor in Wales, UK- I only work with textile sculpture for theatre, etc at the moment and I’m looking for some advice on materials. What oh what oh what are yours made of please?!!! I am a musician who was overwhelmed by the works of Mr. Torfs; my mindimeediately conjured up vast sums of music; perhaps one day it will form itself into a work as sublime and inventive as are Torf’s works. Naturally, these displays have been carefully photographed, and, I hope, cinematically preserved. Out of the deep sorrow of the loss of these works, we all know that Torfs will do many more projects which stem from his fertile imagination, and his deep knowledge of the Earth, and our REAL world … the world of visions, which are the true reality.
Whaaat? Do I understand that all this beauty has been destroyed by the horrible fires recently in Australia?
Oh I’m deeply shocked….this was so amazing….I was yet so shocked by the fires and people losing all their belongings…..

I am so far unable to find an email address for Mr. Torfs, but would also like to express my deepest, and most heart felt sympathy for this terrible loss. It can be difficult for non-artistic people to understand that being an artist, and the works created, is not something that one does, it is what you are; and that said creations are a part of your very soul. It is indeed a heart rending loss.
I knew about the fires in Australia, but I didn´t know about Mr. Torfs until a friend, some days ago, sent me a pps. with his work. I so much admired his artistic talent and philosophy that I wanted to know about his place of birth exactly, South America is so big…, and traying to find it out I came across with this horrible news about his loss.Not only himself but the entire world will suffer it. All my sympathy for him and his family and hope he can react and start again, I am sure he will do so.
Meanwhile I am still thinking about the place where he was born.

To Bruno Torfs – Thank you for the mystical journey. How sad the contrast is for these to be destroyed by such an unnecessary act. Please create more beauty for our eyes to travel through again once more. My thoughts go out to the communities, families and wildlife who were affected by this devastation.
I am so saddened by the loss of Bruno’s wonderful sculpture garden. When I lived in Australia I visited the garden more than once and had looked forward to revisiting it when I return to vacation in Australia. Thankfully, I bought one of his tapes on my last tour.
So very sorry to hear of this great loss.

Sorry to say that I just heard that the gardens burned down in the Black Saturday fires on 7 Feb 2009.
A reminder to do things NOW so we don’t miss out!

Husband & I visited Bruno’s magical garden in Marysville a year before the fires. He was so kind and friendly to us and the work- AMAZING! Hope you are able to find the strength to re-create it anew. Heartfelt thoughts to you & family!
