So my dahlings! Today it’s Mayan’s version of world’s last day. Or so they say. That the Mayan calendar ended this day. So I feel a moral obligation to talk about something really significant – fashion wise – in what could’ve been the last day for mankind and the world as we know it.
The Miu Miu Spring 2013 ad campaign feels like the right topic now. It’s secretive, it’s aesthetically outstanding and forever playing with clichés. Masterfully shot by Inez and Vinoodh, packed with first class models and appealingly styled interiors crumbs, it was cleverly released the day before the Mayan World ended. (the story continues right after the jump, click here for the gallery!)
There’s so much going on in these images, I really have to ask how they came up with the concept! And thinking about that, I keep telling myself it has to be about the Mayan Apocalypse. It just doesn’t add up otherwise. There you have Doutzen Kroes, Adriana Lima, Arizona Muse, Malgosia Bela, Bette Franke, Tamara Weijenberg and Martha Hunt cramming up against each other, whispering, all worried and distressed like they had a severe shoes & bags budget cut.
The Miu Miu ad sisters’ drama unfolds before our very eyes, in beautiful colors and greatly accessorized. There’s a grieving sense of melancholy to Miuccia’s aesthetic that keeps haunting me for hours – is it the same for you? (images from FgR)
