As W magazine seems to follow the same pattern of soon – to – be – released movies main characters to double as their cover stories, I’m left amazed and really charmed by Penelope Cruz beautiful, freckled photo on the cover of W September 2012.
Mert and Marcus, who were really busy this year with all the important September covers (Gaga’s US Vogue, Kate, Daria and Lara for Vogue Paris) did an outstanding job with Penelope. The styling, carried on excellently by Edward Enninful compliments the interview / cover story about the on – screen brilliance of Penelope. Her soon to be released (on the big screen) movie, Twice Born, sounds like a heavy weight drama. But her latest movie, To Rome With Love, is a classic Woody Allen and I honestly can’t wait to see it!
Penelope’s life seems to have been shaped by her movie – parents (Almodovar is her mentor, the one who spawned her love for acting while Woody Allen is the one who cast her alongside her now – husband, Javier Bardem, in Vicky, Christina, Barcelona). I’ve seen fragments of To Rome with Love teaser and, to my greatest surprise, this W cover doesn’t tie up with those scenes. This looks intense, autumnal and so serious!
More likely in reference to Twice Born, the drama I was mentioning above, in which Penelope joins a brilliant cast (Jane Birkin, Emile Hirsch). The W interview, however, doesn’t slip any word about Twice Born. Why would that be? Anyone seen To Rome with Love? Does this cover remind you of it?
