Have you ever asked yourself if the subject picked by magazines really highlight our interests? I kinda always had the feeling that magazines try hard (and some don’t succeed) to draw your interest, even where there is none.
I guess what I’m trying to say is this: who would have been interested in seeing Jennifer Aniston impersonating Barbara Streisand? Who even thought of it for a second before seeing it in Harper’s Bazaar September 2010? I didn’t. But that doesn’t mean it was also an unpleasant surprise. Far from it. I just didn’t see it coming. In a media where the Jennifer Aniston – Angelina Jolie feud is kept alive for all these years because it still cashes in, the last thing you’d expect is seeing people getting over it. (the story continues right after the jump with more images and a video, click here for the gallery!)
Jennifer’s interpretation of Barbara Streisand is pretty overwhelming as the makeup and stylists did a wonderful job in making her look just like the original. The sad truth being told, Jennifer is the perfect American sweetheart. She constantly flops, she doesn’t exceeds in anything particular (all her recent movies were blasted by critics and spectators alike and we’re not expecting any acting registry change soon) but everybody still loves her candidly. Why is that? (Who even gets this Barbara Bazaar thing? Why go along with something we don’t fully understand?) (you can read a fragment from her HB story here)

To be honest I have never understood the allure of Jennifer Aniston. She is not as talented an actor as Lisa Kudrow, and she does not have the comic timing of Courtney Cox Arquette.
She was good in the film “Friends with money” as she was playing totally against type but alas that did not pull them into the theatres either. And the rest of her films barely deserve being mentioned.
I would say that Sandra Bullock is America’s true sweetheart for what it is worth, not Jennifer who is only in the eye of the public because of her divorce from Brad Pitt (five years ago!). That sadly has been the best boost to her career.
Oh and as for this Harper’s cover and her being Streisanded I am not impressed.
I think the Barbra Streisand homage is cute but it ultimately does Jennifer no favours to impersonate a towering, iconic, Emmy, Tony, Oscar-winning actress.
And how stunning was young Barbra?!
Total waste of time – creativity is dead! Just goes to show that the Jennifer Aniston story line is D.O.A.
Why did they not do a homage to the great diva herself? Young Barbra had such an interesting beautiful look. But first of all because of her outstanding career.
As a European I never got the ‘American Sweetheart’ thing. Meg Ryan was one, Julia Roberts, Sandra Bullock…..who’s next?Ellington, let’s not forget that Jennifer’s part in Friend and her hairdo made her popular as a sort of the-girl-next-door-darling. Not her divorce from Brad Pitt. I disagree. I adored her as Rachel. :)
P.S. Ellington, I agree about Courtney Cox Arquette (sometimes I watch Cougar Town just because of her for a good laugh) and I miss the oh, so talented Lisa Kudrow.
Nah….Lisa’s Phoebe character is so irritating. We still get Friends re-runs in primetime and it’s like “Oh no, she’s picking up the guitar! She’s gonna sing another stupid song off-key” (and it wasn’t even funny the first time)
I stopped watching Friends when the series stopped. Same with SATC. Lisa in films has never got a real shot. The burden of being a series star. It’s a pitfall for most series actors.
I shall never ever buy boxes of series. Over is over.
Lisa Kudrow is a character actor, and the roles that she has played in films she has been in all received rave reviews. She was great in “The Opposite of Sex” and also in the “Analyze This” films. At the moment she is now producing tv shows and is doing well at it.
I myself watched only a few episodes of the first season of Friends as I did not find it really funny but rather predictable.
