Don’t underestimate the trendsetting powers of Heidi Klum Samuel! There goes my first item for the Party Must List: the Feather Cape! Black, shiny, real feathers with a polyester lining underneath and a ribbon tie to hold it nicely together in a cap-form.
Whether you’re into ravens or not, this black feathered piece is the fiercest way to glam up a simple black outfit. Ready to party? (Asos via 2BD)

I really loved it :)
Seen this before, done this before. I was inspired though by an old photo of Brian Eno in his Roxy Music days.
This is rather nifty. I like it. : )
Brian Eno is fabu Adriana! Love him!
That makes three! So you made one of these too, Adriana? (Have I already told you how crafty you are? I love your DYI ways!)
Yes, you have, I miss myself I believe…I also had a hairband with feathers made by me. It looked like I had “dark highlights”…:( + :)
Oh, that must look beautiful! I have a (favorite headband) velvet bow tie. The velvet is somewhat silky, I’m sure you know the fabric, I just don’t have the proper name to give it to you precisely. And it looks like it’s one with my hair (almost same color, light brown). I imagine what feathers can do with one’s head ;)
Why don’t you start again? I’d love to give you a head start with Dare to Wear! So many creative minds are selling their creations on etsy… Every time I hear you say “eh, I’ve done this, I’ve done that” I think about the endless creative possibilities you have! You’ve got the science and the talent to do it!
Yes, you have offered me this change before. I never ever shall expose myself on the internet. Never, I’ve read too many”fashion reviews” I suppose? I don’t want to be “killed” off by fashionistas who cannot sew a button themselves and needs cleaners and such.
If you should live near me I could show you everything. I might could make such hairband for you. It’s so easy. But everyone and their dog is a designer these days. All I sew these days are pants and skirts that fits better and of course I repair my clothes. I never go to a cleaner either. I even wash stuff even if the label says it needs “dry cleaning”. Nonsense!
Such a hairband and even that cape is so easy to make…..I did that before school.
Create a hairband: buy a velvet or whatever fabric band in the size or colour you want, broad, small whatever and feathers. If you can find those these days…..sighs…..Sew them on the band (by hand of course!) the way you like it spread over your own hair to look if it’s right/looks good. Mine were very dark, black with a bit very dark blue and green nuance and so that was fun on red hair! In the 80’s the trend for “highlights” started right? So that was what it looked like.
Buy a cape in a 2nd hand shop as I did. Or make one, use a pattern. Sew feathers -by hand- on it. Mine closed though with a bracket (right sp.?). So it’s so easy, all you need is just a little patience to do it……
(I had different hairbands, also with another kind of feathers, or flowers on it or I wore only a band with just a broche on it!)
Alas so many great shops where we could buy all the things we needed to create everything are gone. Thanks to the cheap clothing ala H&M and the very expensive brands. It’s harder and more expensive to find good and nice material these days. I hate that!! I’ve to search for specialties a lot by the way. To knit is more expensive than to buy these days….pfff…. That’s the case since the mid 90’s when things changed so fast as well in the financial world as in fashion. Now we need it again, due to a lack of money, those shops are gone and no one has the money to start a new ones….though I still own little boxes filled with these things, pots of glass with buttons too, looks great….:)
I have the feather cape in grey and love it! x
