Keira Knightley’s Women’s Aid Anti Domestic Violence Ad

Domestic abuse is one of those sensitive matters nobody likes to talk about or point in a specific direction. I won’t cry wolf because it’s not my place to do so, but I strongly believe awareness campaigns are there to serve a purpose: draw attention on sensitive but oh-so-important matters!

Keira Knightley’s Public Service Announcement for Women’s Aid gave me the goose bumps but I wanted to show it to you too, I wanted to help spread the word! (the story continues after the jump!)

The short film was directed by Joe Wright (Atonement, Pride & Prejudice) and should make us more receptive to the facts:

“[…] while domestic violence exists in every section of society, we rarely hear about it. We may not think we know someone who has experienced domestic violence, but this does not mean that it is not happening.”

“Domestic violence affects one in four women at some point in their lifetime and kills two women every week. Without the services provided by Women’s Aid, many more women could be at risk of being killed-yet without donations, the charity may not exist this time next year”

Kudos to Keira for doing this PSA! (on a side note – has anyone else noticed she’s not pouting like she always does for this short film? hmmm)

It’s a visceral advert and the way it’s been directed, so it peaks toward the end. Even when the camera backs away, leaving a set, the scene dominates. I think it’s one of the best community service adverts I have seen on domestic violence. The majority that I have seen, tend to focus on the bruises, not how they actually get there, and seeing the simulation.

That was hard to watch……I’m afraid domestic violence shall not go away, ever….I
It doesn’t attach only women. Children, think about the children and even eldery….
Human”kind”…..?

Kudos to everyone who does make time, effort or whatever they do to make people aware and help the abused……and punish the abusers!!!

That was a very well done concise and poignant PSA.
With Keira Knightly doing this and what has recently happened to Rhianna this will surely leave a lasting impression on people.
Domestic violence happens to women, children, men, the young, the old, and the infirm.
I don’t know if it can or ever will stop but what I do hope is that the monsters (people) who inflict it are soundly punished and that the victims are helped so that they can heal emotionally and physically.

Kpriss, you may know what I don’t understand is that the abused woman/man or whoever very often go back to the abuser, because they love him/her etc.
Something in the human brain isn’t explainable. We always think that we are humans and not animals, but the behaviour of some of us, is worser then of some animals. Look to what happend in Binghamton, it’s really disgusting what we sometimes do to each other, if it is physical or verbal violence. It’s all the same when you use violence it hurts someone.
