Who said marriages are falling heavily under the credit crunch merciless hammer? SATC fans allover the world (Hmm all over the internet world is more suited) caused an immediate sold-out case in Vivienne Westwood’s bride dress.
Why? Because of Carrie Bradshaw, of course! She was seen wearing the white bride number in the Sex And The City movie so, naturally, every true fan out there wants to get married in the same dress Carrie did! (the story continues right after the jump!)
That sounds perfectly natural, but you should also know that the dress available on net-a-porter.com had an amazing tag price: $9,875. And it was a knee-length version! The floor length original version, as seen on Carrie in SATC the movie costs a whopping $15,700 and you have to order it chez Dame Vivienne (and wait six months for it!).
I had my white wedding also, but I wouldn’t have it like anyone else’s! Would you pay $10,000 to have the same wedding dress as someother bride (even if it’s a celeb and the wedding is a movie-fictional one)? (via, photos via 1, 2, 3)

In a word no. I thought the dress was interesting and very Carriesque for the character. But I honestly think that it is a dress that very few women can or could pull off successfully, I almost shudder to see the wedding photos of said brides.
If I do marry I want to look like me not a copy of someone else.
Oh and funnily enough Carrie did not get married in the Vivienne Westwood creation, she got left at the alter in it. Not a good portent to start a life of marital bliss. ;)
I personally prefer John Galliano wedding dresses. The SATC films are wonderful for marketing though.
Ellington, Carrie got left at altar in the SATC film? I’ve not spent an € on that movie you see.
An other good point is who does want to look as a copy of someone else on your wedding day?
The SATC films are wonderful for marketing? Now, that’s exactly why I wait until I can see it for free on tv. I love to watch films not commercials. Although there are some fun ones around I’d pay attention to from time to time…..
Oh, I forgot to look real good at the dress. What an ugly dress for that amount of money. Both!
Oh dear Adriana! I am ever so sorry if I spoiled the plot for you!
Mea Culpa! :)
As for the dress, I love Vivienne Westwood and her designs for the most part. I think I would love that dress if it was in navy blue, or purple (in the shorter version) to wear in as an evening dress. But that is just me! :)
LOL! So again no Mr. Big for Carrie? Is that going to happen in Sex And The Spinsters – the sequel?
Adriana, thousands of women saw that film in the cinema at its premiere around the globe so yes it’s good for marketing, not that I agree with the way it is used as a commercial but it’s definitely a commercial, which unfortunately focuses on a narrow amount of designers. I’m guessing there are many women that are SATC brand clones. It seems that Americans have just discovered Vivienne Westwood. I’ve never liked her designs. They’ve always had a constant theme of sloppiness.
Has anyone actually seen the back of this gown? If not, check out net-a-porter. It gets shorter in the back and looks horrible and personally a short wedding gown is something I would never even put into consideration.
This dress is quite unattractive. It doesn’t even look good on SJP. I think a better dress could have definitely been selectived. It does nothing for the figure, it actually makes SJP look frumpy.
I don’t like that dress, but it looked good on carrie when she was doing the photoshoot, later it just got too crumpled from her sitting in the car with it, I mean look at the top pic, its all crumpled.. I wouldn’t wear a crumpled wedding dress costing 10/15k esp worn by someone else!!!
Reports were that Vivienne Westwood was invited to the premiere of SATC Movie and she got up
and left after 10-20 minutes into the film, as she thought the movie stupid and the fashion horrible.
They have used lots of her items over the years…..remember the pink & white designer luggage that
Carrie had…..that was Vivienne Westwood….and the fashion show they attended was Vivienne Westwood.
So they must really like her !!!
I remember that Valorie Smithy! I remember the reports stated that she was very vocal during the projection and she left rather loudly disappointed with the movie :-)
but what’s not to like about dame Viv’s spirit and hardly conventional fashion? <3
