How do you manage a media magnet couple in the same issue of a magazine? How do you handle their percentages? Do you get more for the girl (out of simple, elementary respect) or for the guy?
What if that couple was Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise? For NY Times T Magazine? How would you put them side by side? Lying on the sofa? Comfortably sitting in their respective chairs? So many questions, only one answer – the current issue of T Magazine with Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise. Side by side. Kinda.. (more after the jump)
Photographs by Solve Sundsbo (even if I was more used to and more fond of Raymond Meier’s work for T Magazine), Katie Holmes stands for Best Supporting Actress and Tom Cruise for Lifetime Achiever (?). With black and white pictures and classic, retro-flavored styling, both Katie and Tom look royal. Anyone would, with that setting! While I raise my eyebrows and ask if Tom’s career is over, for being a lifetime achiever, I couldn’t be more d’accord with their supporting actress for Katie. She’s not a leading lady and she’ll never be one. Nothing about her inspires me strength and verticality. But I wanted to share the pictures with you because I love Solve’s work and I have a thing for retro photographs, the black and white, immortal kind. I also added two interviews, one with Katie and one with Tom, Screen Test dialogues for T Magazine. I’m sure you have you mind set about these pictures and interviews, about this couple. And even if you don’t, this article will help you out! Shall we talk some Katie and Tom? (click thumbnails to see larger images) (via tmagazine)

Katie Holmes is the type of woman who never appears to be beautiful to me. Sometimes she is “cute” looking and other times she is just beyond ordinary looking, nothing memorable at all. This also includes her acting skills and her striving to be a fashionista.
As for Tom, I CANNOT ABIDE HIM!
The only film, that I liked and it was not because he was in it was “Magnolia” the cast in that was stellar and Tom was not the star.
He is doing this press for his upcoming film “Valkerie” in which he plays a Nazi officer who wants to kill Hitler while sporting a flat Californian accent! The man’s a genius! : P
As for the photos they are well shot, but then they should be.
Ellington, you had to click on the link in order to read the story. If you have such animosity, why do you bother?
Eva, I read everything that Kpriss posts and I express my opinion.
Just be because I have disdain(animosity is too strong a word)for Tom Cruise and his latest wife, does not mean that I have no right to express what I think. Also Kpriss has asked for varied opinions on the matter.
Now you have asked me a question and I have deemed to answer it.
Now I ask a question of you, what do you like about the above photos
(which I said were shot well) and Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes?
If you produce a well thought out argument I may just change my mind.
You didn’t answer the question.
I’m not a Tom Cruise fan. Never have been but I like Katie Holmes ever since I saw her in Dawson. These pictures are beautiful and I’ve always dreamed of being photographed a la George Hurell like this. These pictures look like they were taken last year as Katie is still growing out her hair from her short crop not too long ago.
And I wish the press would leave Suri alone even if Tom keeps pimping the little darling.
Eva, I think Ellington answered earlier. I don’t like Tom (or Katie) that much either. But I think as far as this article goes, we can all safely express our opinions without taking one side or the other.
I thought there was something strange about Katie’s hair too, Dolly Bird! This must be it! She’s been photographed last year! or so…
Ellington is right, the photos are taken to promote Tom’s movie Valkerie. Can anyone explain me why Katie has to be photographed too as someone she can’t even play that well?
The actress who plays his wife in Valkerie, Dutch Carice van Houten is a real leading lady, a great actress far better than Katie….but Carice’ part in Valkerie is a supporting actress role……
If you ever get the change to see Paul Verhoeven’s Blackbook don’t hestitate. Verhoeven make two kind of movies, Hollywood slick and great quality Dutch movies. I adore the man…..
Oh yes the Cruises…..even Suri is to me, (sorry!!!) a scary kid from Hubbard’s planet! Ugh!
The black/white photography is very beautiful. I just don’t like the subjects….
Eva, you did add nothing to this discussion than criticize Ellington’s opinion.
Katie Holmes has big, ugly features (ugly eyes, ugly lips, ugly skin, ugly nose, ugly posture) and without make-up, hair style and Tom Cruises’s money to buy her designer’s clothes, she is plain ordinary. How funny when she tries to be a fashionista because now she has Tom’s money to cover up her plainness.
