Helen Mirren Is A Marks & Spencer Designer?

With Matthew Williamson flying from Debenbams to Hennes and Mauritz, I see a possible further collaboration between Dame Helen Mirren and British retail giant Marks & Spencer as a normal one!

After all, we all noticed how all boutiques only sell sleeveless clothes, haven’t we? Dame Helen Mirren saw that too and she’s up for a designer challenge, aiming mostly dresses. DWS will be the name of her brand, and that comes from Dresses With Sleeves! I have very high esteem for Dame Mirren and her elegant signature style, but do we really need another celeb-turned-designer? I see plenty of dresses with sleeves! And even if there were not enough of those, couldn’t a simple suggestion be enough in order to produce more sleeves? (via telegraph.co.uk)

Heavens to Betsy Bloomingdales! Must be Helen having an Oscar hangover. I really don’t see what HM is babbling on about. No dresses with sleeves? She’s very often in Haute Couture(a reguliar at Lacroix) so she commands sleeves according to her Bafta winning whims. The thing is very often on the red carpet what do we see on Helen Mirren? A shawl that covers her shoulders, arems and SLEEVES!

Well if this is true then I think its a novel idea. Why?
Because Helen Mirren is a wonderful actress and a very lovely and beautiful women of a certain age. There has not been any representation of her age group in all of the
celeb-designers, and Marks and Sparks’ clothing appeals to a certain demographic of lady, is affordable and is usually well made.
Sometimes the latest evening looks are either all strapless, backless, sleeveless, or spaghetti straps. Not everyone wants to wear a cover when dressing up. I think if this does happen she will have something to offer and I think it will sell. : )

Agreed and agreed: Dame Helen is beyond awesome, and there is no reason on earth she should be designing dresses.

Agreed, agreed, agreed!

Bah, nothing left to say for me….sigh….oh yes, I think they choose Helen Mirren because she appeals to older women.
I went shopping today (what a nice day btw) and I’d wondered what to wear when you’re old(er) . Or you look silly in too young clothes or you look the same like everyone else when younger…..
I love Dame Helen Mirren. She’s a role-model for the ones that wants to grow gracefully older, free spirit, but above all a marvelous actress but not a designer….

We had an M&S for a while in Amsterdam. I’d like to go there for the english food though….yummy…the clothes? Brrrrr..

Haha, I agree Adriana.. M&S food is good news, but M&S clothes are BAD NEWS!

They did that Sex and the City range with the stylist from the show (Patricia Field), and they have Lily Cole, Erin O’Connor and Twiggy in their ads, but generally the clothes remain pretty unfashionable.
