Yesterday I told you a story about Penelope Cruz, today I’ll tell you (a short) one about her boyfriend – Javier Bardem (you might be familiar with him from No Country for Old men – where I found him brilliant).
However, I wasn’t expecting to find out so much about Mr Bardem’s intimates believes and be so surprised in the same time:
“I DON’T believe in God, I believe in Al Pacino, and that’s true.”
It’s like hearing Posh say she doesn’t believe in God, she only believes in Hermes! Why would anyone mess up with the Big Guy Upstairs for an Oscar?

Javier Bardem IS brilliant. I adore him. Of course he is brilliant in “No country for old men” but he’s always brilliant. I haven’t seen a movie where he wasn’t good. Ah well, did he say that?
Where did you read that? Sometimes people blur out stuff. Like me….our temper….and I’m not even Spanish! Though I love them.
I’m an atheist like him. Though I’m always careful with saying such things. You never whom you hurt….
*You never KNOW who you hurt”
I think he is a good actor, but I think that he was attempting to be witty when he just seemed to come across as obtuse.
Oh, I’ve found -at last- the whole interview with Javier. Gosh, that was hard to find. Because I could only find the line you used Kpriss.
There’s nothing blasphemous whatsoever in what he has said. And being a fan for at least 10 years I can almost hear him saying this. And I’m a European, has lived among the Spaniards….its not that bad.
10 questions to Javier Bardem in Time Magazine. And all the other magazines and even this blog do is quote this one answer….I think Ellington has a good point and its always harder to express yourself in whats not your mothers tongue. Nice interview though.
Are there any actors you’re dying to work with? Kathryn Coulter ALEXANDRIA, VA.
Javier: “I always say, “I don’t believe in God, I believe in Al Pacino”–and that’s true. If I ever get a phone call saying “Would you like to work with Pacino?” I would go crazy.”
Well in that context his statement makes sense. Thanks for the clarification Adriana! : )
I do not like the way the media did abuse this line. Its all so different in the interview.
And I don’t like it either that Al Pacino is portrayed as if he IS Scarface! It is just a part he played…..I like the actor Al Pacino. I can imagine Javier would love to work with him.
I came across this photo again while I was looking for a nice ‘Easy as Sunday Morning’ as you always have. The ones that makes me smile. It isn’t there yet? So I react one more time because the first thing I saw was this photo again as Editor’s Choice. That didn’t made me smile….I felt annoyed by it…
