The Met Gala 2010 – American Women Fashioning A National Identity
May 4th, 2010 by kpriss
The Metropolitan Museum of Art presented this year’s Costume Institute Benefit Gala with more stars lining up on the Red Carpet than an ordinary Oscar event. And to think that Anna Wintour’s curated event was under the influence of the American Women (fashioning a National Identity) circa 1890-1940!
I was trying hard to see through the Red Carpet defile something that would remind me of this year’s theme; instead I had to declare myself satisfied with outfits I could easily describe as season-fit – Prom Season, that is! Jessica Biel’s Ralph Lauren Dress Vs Jessica Alba’s Sophie Theallet Dress. The Met Gala 2010 Nightgowns
May 4th, 2010 by kpriss
Let’s say you’re a Hollywood A-lister. Or close (to A). And you’re attending an official event alongside your big/small screen peers. What’s your unique approach? Fashion-wise?
Jessica Alba and Jessica Biel had more than just their names to share for the Met Gala 2010. They both went for (very) similar silky dresses. Jessica Biel was wearing a buttery Ralph Lauren and Jessica Alba was Sophie Theallet for Gap purplicious. They were both wearing almost identical bracelets on the right arm wrist. Luckily the hairstyles were different: Jessica Alba went for a retro waveish do while Jessica Biel opted for a loose high chignon. But which one nailed the retro fashion right? Jennifer Lopez In Zuhair Murad Dress At Met Gala 2010
May 3rd, 2010 by kpriss
Jennifer Lopez went for a glitzy number while attending the Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute 2010 Gala: Zuhair Murad’s dress was Red Carpet appropriate and still a safe sartorial choice.
I was expecting something more like Diane Kruger’s Calvin Klein’s dress, something that’ll emphasize JLo’s curvy body. Instead I was surprised to see how beautiful and modest she looked wearing a princessy Zuhair Murad dress. I admit I can’t help but think about Miley each time I see a Zuhair Murad dress, but you don’t have to be influenced by that – say the first thing Jennifer Lopez’ Gala outfit inspires you! Liv Tyler And Kate Hudson In Stella McCartney Dresses At Met Gala 2010
May 3rd, 2010 by kpriss
Looking like sisters (and behaving like high school bffs), Liv Tyler and Kate Hudson keep their loyalty towards Stella McCartney. They both showed up, just like the last time, with the British designer on the Red Carpet of the Met’s Costume Institute 2010 Gala.
Though Kate Hudson looks like she always does, vamping a droite et a gauche, Liv Tyler doesn’t strike me as flawless. The eyeliner makeup doesn’t seem to help either and the dress while being absolutely beautiful looks like it’s missing something. Stella McCartney’s black asymmetrical dress is plain and glamourless. What’s missing from Stella McCartney’s Met 2010 double date? (more images right after the jump, click here for the gallery) (photos via)

Zoe Saldana In Blue Calvin Klein Dress At Met Gala 2010
May 3rd, 2010 by kpriss
Zoe Saldana, in my books, can do absolutely no wrong (of course, until proven guilty). So seeing her at the Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute 2010 Gala wearing a tight, sculptural Calvin Klein blue dress is part of that above-mentioned perfection program.
Pairing with Diane Kruger’s white silhouette for Calvin Klein, Zoe Saldana is the modest, yet unspeakably loud beauty (they should’ve kept her makeup on a lower key – that foundation is clear as daylight under the flashes). I wish I could add more, but Zoe’s perfectly speaking for herself! (noticed that Na’vi blue cuff? Funny she should pair it with the dress, though it matches heavenly – more images right after the jump, click here for the gallery!) (photos via)

Diane Kruger In White Calvin Klein Dress At Met Gala 2010
May 3rd, 2010 by kpriss
Now here’s something we don’t get to see every day! Diane Kruger on the Met Gala 2010 Red Carpet wearing something not-Chanel! How is that possible? Something’s going on – Chanel with Kristen Stewart and Diane Kruger with Calvin Klein?
Though anything she would have chosen from Chanel would have most certainly have made her look less godess-y than this skin-tight white CK number does, it doesn’t lower the strange factor. Besides, the hair is matron-ish and as impeccable as her look was intended to be, Diane always makes me think at someone less vamp-ish than tonight’s Met Gala Diane. What do you think? It’s a nice change? (more images right after the jump, click here for the gallery!) (photos via)
Emma Watson In White Burberry Dress At Met Gala 2010
May 3rd, 2010 by kpriss
Now going from black to white, charming Emma Watson joins the celebration of the American Woman’s Fashion at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute’s 2010 Gala wearing (what else) a Burberry dress.
Not objecting (except for the dramatic slit contrasting strangely with the upper part of her dress – making me believe this cut was originally seen in some Versace blueprint). Loving the hairdo – simple, young, I’d even go for casual. Except for the wedding white style (with a Versace touch), we can still see the positive side: she brings a ray of light on a dark Red Carpet (so far). What do you make of that slit? Is it really Burberry? (more images right after the jump, click here for the gallery!) (photos via)

Kristen Stewart In Black Chanel Dress At Met Gala 2010
May 3rd, 2010 by kpriss
As much as I could appreciate (my own manner, of course) the Kaiser, I can’t approve his choosing Kristen Stewart to represent the house of Chanel for the Metropolitan Museum of Art 2010 Gala. Aside from the huge publicity she’d bring.
And that’s a bad couture move for the Kaiser. Despite of the dress being pretty Haute Couture-ish, Kristen looks too young to pull this heavy look. Correct me if I’m wrong (even if she looks awkwardly misplaced for every Red Carpet event), but Kristen looks like she’s trying too hard (she ended up looking like Rumer Willis – you can convince yourself by clicking here to see the gallery). With the 20s hair and the black nails, there’s something missing from this picture. What is it? (photos via)
