Much like many of you, I too have overheard the rumors talking about Rihanna and Anne Hathaway having their Vogue covers for November and December respectively. And I wasn’t happy, I admit. At first.
Then I started thinking: what if… I’d switch perspectives? And start looking at these “celebrity covers” from another angle, not from the fashion loving individual’s corner, who’s always asking for model covers? After all, months have passed, and things don’t look better. Au contraire: the celebrity covers have widely spread throughout various fashion magazines all over the world. It’s time for a change! And – as the legendary tune goes – ‘better start with the man in the mirror’!
Rihanna. Vogue US November 2012. Her second Vogue cover. Impressive, huh? My pros? It’s not a ‘white cover’! And that’s huge for Vogue US. It’s not a waif thin, underweight physical frame! And that’s huge for women around the world! (hit the jump to read more and see more images and a behind – the – scenes video)
Working with such a high profile fashion magazine when you have a new album coming up (Rihanna’s seventh album, Unapologetic, is scheduled for release next month) is surely profitable for both sides, so no wonder there. However, the 24yo entertainer seems to be on a self – promotional spree as of late, having being interviewed by Oprah as well.
We can arguably call this a cliché cover, although I personally still feel charmed by Annie Leibovitz’ epical photographic style. I know you may have your personal views about Rihanna and some may even know her music. Unlike myself, who, unfamiliar with her tunes, I discovered with genuine surprise that she’s at her 7th album! However, I am deeply familiar with the gossip columns around her public / personal life. Which prompts me to ask: could this Rihanna pr – bombing have anything to do with her on – off relationship with Chris Brown? Like – maybe – greasing the path towards their public reconciliation and getting back together? Just asking… (if you’re interested, here’s the Vogue story)

I am to be honest rather fed up with Rhianna. So I will not be getting this issue of Vogue.
I really love some of these photos. Wonderful. I’m not that familiar with Rhianna’s music either. I do recognise her on the radio though.
I read less and less celebrity gossip these days. So I do not know much about Rhianna’s private life. Maybe I will read this Vogue story.
