In Dazed and Confused Special Guest Collaboration Issue in July, Dame Vivienne Westwood “wants you to get a life”.
You know, when you’re for the first time presented with a cover without any other information except the cover itself (and some more additional pictures right after the jump) you’re getting as creative as possible trying to understand the idea behind the photos (you can click the images to enlarge).
The message is clear enough “Get a life” because Dame Vivienne said so and the presentation goes like this :”A young self-sufficient tribe of eco-warriors dress for the future camouflaged in recycled waste and plant-life”. Aside the beautiful children and the very creative pictures, I still ask myself what’s the idea.
Of course I could go on writing about how kids are the perfect representation of the future and getting them to play a role in a war, even in a eco-conscious way, it’s a potential trigger for many people’s conscience. Then again maybe not. People have a strange way of going superficial when crucial matters are brought to their attention. Feeling to small in front of a problem-mountain, they run and hide saying they can’t do much to make a difference.
That’s my take on this story. That somehow, somewhere we’re triggered and it’s up to our conscience to deal with the issues in a positive way. What’s your take on this pictorial?

first of all, vivenne westwood for dazed and confused mag? Awesome.
Second of all, i hope she doesnt go off ranting about consumerism and all that again.
Third of all, at first glance, I’m guessing that the pictorial is about how the young of today are the ones who will fight the environmental issues/ are the future of our planet etc. but then I’m also thinking it’s a kind of warning. … like if we don’t do something now, the children are gonna have to fight for us.
I really like those unique design of the jewelry, clothes…the spirits of life
a dreamer – I too think it’s about warning people.. But she did it in such an artsy and playful way that it’s completely adorable!
Tina – it took forever for the stylists but it’s totally worth it!
