Photographer Douglas Kirkland managed to surprise the world with 40 unseen pictures of Coco Chanel, the legend!
Kirkland’s young eye (27 years old at the time, in 1962) studied Miss Chanel for three weeks time and got so close and won Coco’s favors that he has gone where no photographer has gone before. In his mission from Look magazine, he took pictures of Mademoiselle in her private rooms, in the Versailles gardens and not only pictures of her models and her working with sketches, like he was first warned to do. His photos are on exposition in SoHo, New York, at Westwood Gallery. (via) (click thumbnails to see larger images)

I really hope we get this exhibition here, in Sydney! I think sometimes “pokey little Oz” gets forgotten- but we are just as interested as the rest of the world.
I would love to see this exhibition and I would absolutely love to have the catalogue! :) The photos look great!
To die for!
