Dare To Wear Leg Warmers As Arm Warmers?

More than five years ago I had one of the greatest fashepiphanies ever: the leg warmers. I had no ballet / dancing knowledge, I had no friends who were taking ballet lessons (though I’m seriously looking into that for our daughter – but that’s another story altogether) so I had not seen the benefits of leg warmers until that day. When they were all over the place.

So I stormed into the first H & M I could find and got myself a pair of black leg warmers. Worn them long and good. And then, one year, I had this gorgeous tunic I wanted to wear for a night out. Sadly, it was too cold outside for that particular tunic. And then pop! Lightbulb! What if I’d wear my faithful black leg warmers as arm warmers? And so it started…

I kept wearing those even if people starred at me wondering if I had cut the arms off of a sweater or… All but my Adored Husband who had faith in my vision and liked my unusual leg warmers repurposing. Not only do I wear leg warmers on my (bare) arms and think they’re absolutely wonderful for cold – er weather but I think they’re great for layering down. For people like myself, who don’t like to put on an entire closet when it’s cold outside, cardi – sweater sandwich and so forth – just put your arm warmers on! And once you’re indoors, you take them out easily and you don’t have to carry a sweater on your arm for a late night drink (wink).

Anyway, long story short – I was reminded about my leg warmers turned arm warmers when I saw this pair from Maison Martin Margiela (above) in a sales announcing newsletter. That’s how I came with the idea of asking you if you ever thought about wearing them like that – or if you ever actually worn leg warmers as arm warmers (they’re really worth it, so don’t ignore them!) (the images hereby came from 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7)

I wear them on the couch at night while watching tv since it’s really cold all of a sudden. It’s possible to hide your hands in them too. Very nice.

I wore them in the ’80 a lot for fun. Hand knitted by myself. Inspired by as well by leg warmers as Metallica’s James Hetfield’s writs bands.

… do you think they’re like.. fashion faux pas or something? Cause I think I’m becoming addicted ;)

What’s wrong with an innocent addiction? I’m typing here since it’s so cold with UGGs at my feet, three layers of clothing and armwarmers over my hands; fingers free. Fashion faux pas? I’m so comfy and satisfied and I save expensive energy which is also a “green” thing…:so all good…:)

Absolutely! Leg warmers can double as super cozy arm warmers, making a stylish and practical accessory for those chilly days.
