From the iconic pair of Candie wood bottom slides from the eighties to Britney Spears isn’t a clear path. I could, of course, force a chronological relation with Britney’s early years (she’s born in 1981, the same year the Candie wood slides came to light), but where would all the Brit-fun be?

However, Candie’s choice for their 2009 ad campaign puzzles me: they say Britney Spears is a performer/personality girls (from allover the country) look up to. Wait, what? Last I checked, there wasn’t much iconic and role model left to the Britney Spears soup! Miley wasn’t available?

(and you have to love how Candie’s are age-silhouette-cellulite-gravitation defying! There isn’t a single spot of skin or tissue irregularity and the bags fly on their own in Candie’s advertising campaign with Britney! oh, and shouldn’t she look happier?) (via 1, 2)

UPDATE: Recently photos from Britney Spears Candie’s campaign were released just as they were: untouched by the Photoshop magic we’re all used to seeing in magazines and ad campaigns (especially when celebs are involved). Allegedly published at Britney’s request (because she thinks there’s too much pressure on women to look perfect), the unretouched photos show her real skin, and her real body, just as they are.

(she didn’t accept her ads to be retouched to start with, finally coping with the fact that the unphotoshoped images will be released in the same time as the official campaign. Which wasn’t the case, the campaign we’re talking about was effective for last year – 2009 – while we’re first seeing the untouched images one year later – 2010) (photos via)
