Today it seems to be the “why’s that” cover day! I’m serious, have you seen the latest i-D pre fall 2010 issue covers? Yeah, it’s a trifecta for this one too! The covers stars are Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and well… Lady Gaga.
Kate Moss is supposedly impersonating Freja Beha (?) Naomi is supposedly impersonating whatever her ego wants to and then there’s Lady Gaga. As herself. Somewhat. There’s also something to celebrate – i-D’s 30th anniversary so the cover tagline “Then Now Next” suddenly makes a lot more sense. Does it? (the story continues right after the jump with more images and a video! Click here for the gallery!)
Photographed by Nick Knight, all I’m seeing throughout the new i-D images is a sort of basic, monochromatic tragedy trying to appeal my aesthetic senses. And it magically fails to. I think it’s a new game in the art world: the question is no longer about the artist’s vision but about the most basic image he/she can deliver so the viewer/end consumer can imagine/project whatever they want on that image. What do you project on i-D’s pre fall issue covers? (photos via)

Well the photos of all three are nice but I am tired of Kate, and since Naomi’s ridiculous Hague testimony I cannot abide her, and Lady Gaga does not interest me.
So basically for me it is a big “not for this chica” vote.
I second Ellington’s comment. :)
I luv it when there is multiple covers. I would choose Kate – only because of habit! Total boycott of Naomi & Gaga has no appeal to me because I am in the over 35 demographic.
