Are You Fit To Be A Fashion Designer? Weekend Psychology

After concluding that today was one of those days when you find out that even your cat is aiming to be a fashion designer, this comes as the natural question: who is really fit to be a designer?

Psychologists hurry with an answer, giving away a profile, an ideal personality profile for the ideal designer! It’s pretty scientific for a change, diluting the marketing mambo jumbo into few logical profiles. If you’re into it, then you should hit the jump to find out more about this psychostudy!

Designer Personality Types

Based on the Jung Myers-Briggs personality types indicators (you can read more about it here), you can easily depict 16 personality types, all revolving around four concepts: Introversion vs Extroversion; Intuiting vs Sensing, Thinking vs Feeling and Judging vs Perceiving. If you’re curious about your type, you can take the test here and see what you’ll come up with! (it’s definitely not your average Cosmo-poll!) And if you’d like to share, I’m breaking the ice already: I’m an ESFP (a personality type most likely to be found in performers – if you take the test, when you score, you’ll also find a link to decrypting your personality type at the end. Good luck!)

What Personality Types Are Designers

So they thought the same personality type test applies to designers. And they came up with a poll to make it work. The answer? The best designer is an ISFJ. That comes from Introverted, Sensing, Feeling, Judging. Meaning a real fit designer likes to work alone, trying to understand the world in depth; also he or she is a data and facts person, practically accepting the world as it is, looking for harmony and being empathic, all through carefully planning and controlling with a real focus on results. How many can be ruled out of the “fit designer personality”? (via)

P.S. Forgot to mention that the INFJ is typical for famous persons! LOL, at least I can sit front row and get all the good stuff for free right? Or my own line of course so I end up as a famous designer after all. :D

My personality type is ISFJ and it is not the first time I do the Jung Typology Test. Although I am a Fashion major I did not plan to actually become a designer…hm…I guess it’s time to re-evaluate my decision)
