(In case you just read the title and your eyes went out of your eyeballs, wondering what I’m talking about: ) when I first heard that Tom Cruise was going to play a rock star, I was full of disbelief and disappointment – couldn’t they have come up with a more credible actor? I was 100% percent convinced it’ll be catastrophic.
Until I saw some scenes from the Rock of Ages movie trailer. I was blown away! Sure, it was a teaser, so it had to be spectacular. But Tom Cruise, as a rock star, looked pretty much the real deal. He has that superior attitude and that (sometimes) inexplicable energy to rock. The stage. For a movie (initially a Broadway musical, Rock of Ages, the movie, will soon be released in a cinema theater near you, according to imdb – next month I think?). So W Magazine’s June 2012 cover happened. With Tom Cruise sandwiched between two beautiful models – Edita Vilkeviciute and Abbey Lee Kershaw.
Photographed by Mario Sorrenti, W’s June 2012 cover will sit pretty on the newsstand next to Vogue’s Olympic sandwich. I’m really curious to see what comes next in Conde – Nast’s sandwich cover approach. Back to Rock of Ages – looking at the preview picture below, how do you feel about Tom Cruise rockin’ personality?

More credible actor? Were you on dr|_|gs? Lol he’s one of the best.
I love this musical on broadway and really want to see the movie
seriously? Tom Cruise as a hard rock-er? Yeah, I think Colin Farrell would’ve been easier to imagine in the Rock of Ages! (and that was just a random, quick pick)
And as much as I dislike myself for saying that – Tom Cruise is among one of the most engaged performers – he’s really 1000% percent in the movie he’s playing! I may not agree with some of the aspects of his personal life, but as far as the big / small screen goes, I think he’s one of the most entertaining actors.
Tom Cruise has the gift to work my last nerve.
People said the same thing when he was cast in Interview with a Vampire, and apparently he did a good job of that.
He commits to his roles, but he is not my favourite actor, the only film of his that I really like and can watch over again is “Legend”. I will mos def not be seeing this film because I really do not care about the subject of the film. I look at this poster magazine cover and all that goes through my mind is “So what.”.
I’m not going to see this film either. I have not an opinion about the musical since I’d never heard of it before.
There are some parts of Tom Cruise I really enjoyed and consider him in this parts a great actor. Yes, Ellington like Interview with a Vampire but I find the whole cast outstanding. Top Gun, The Color of Money, The Firm. He’s great in Born on the Fourth of July and fun in Jerry Maquire (with help from Cuba Coodings Jr ;) ). I love his performance in Magnolia. That’s my fave Tom Cruise part. Possibly I forgot one or two?
Last night I watched the trailers on IMDb and my poor ears were terrorised by the ‘rock’ music…I almost felt offended being a rock girl at heart. And for fun of the cliche rock star/rock band thing I’d rather rewatch Spinal Tap.
So glad my favorite rock singer Alter Bridge frontman Myles Kennedy is far from a cliche rock star.
This cover really saddens me because I was a teen in the 80s so movies like Top Gun, Taps, All the right moves & Cocktail are very dear to my heart. When date night happens in our house – it is pizza, Tom Cruise movie & heaps of nostalgia. All I see with this movie role is a mid life crisis!
OMG. I am LOVIN’ this. And I’m not a Tom Cruise fan per se–I like him as a person & most of his movies are entertaining, but I’ve just never had a thing for him. Until THIS…LOL!! OMG…it’s like my childhood is back in the form of Tom Cruise. Can not WAIT to see this—he’s never been HOTTER.
Never been a fan of Tom Cruise untill i watched this film! he is BRILLIANT in it and I have devoloped a tiny crush on him lol. Well done Tom and the cast the film is Great and I will be going to see the stage production again because I can’t get the songs out of my head ;)
