Having doubts about paring this or that from your wardrobe? Worse: are you feeling clueless about the right contents of a men’s wardrobe?
I identified 7 tips and tricks, suggestions and multiple visual examples with infographics about a man’s style and wardrobe to help you find the answer to the man fashion riddle. Or simply refine and enhance the useful style knowledge you already possessed. Let’s start digging into the men’s wardrobe secrets:
{1} Focus on the essentials
Draw a list like the one below, with what should fit in your/man closet, evaluating not the seasonal trends but the daily routine. This is a general wardrobe plan that should cover all situations.
{2} Mind the shirt
It may not always be your first rule of the thumb, but more quality and less quantity should always govern any purchase. As such, a good shirt is a good style sign. Below some check points revealing the true quality of a shirt and the collar types a shirt can have.
{3} Mind the fit of the suit
Although temptation can be hard to overcome, the right fit makes the right suit and not the other way around. Don’t take the suit a la mode but the suit that suits you/your man. Not too large, not too tight, dressing all the right corners like it should, not draping or hanging around the edges. Here’s how the suit should fit (and how it shouldn’t fit), the main suits categories and where they should be worn.
{4} Know your tie
Believe it or not, but the tie can actually be a valuable fashion accessory. If – as always – done/worn right. Knowing and using your/man tie like it should demands just a couple of essential skills. The infocharts below should help you in mastering them:
{5} Coordinate
Mixing and matching can really be a pain especially when time is of the essence. Think and plan ahead, draw a chart or take pictures if it helps, of the right shirts and tie patterns, tops and bottoms going well together. Stick to those combinations or feel free to improvise keeping in mind the few simple tips below:
{6} Know your shoes
A genderless issues than can be literally a pain if taken lightly. Wearing the right shoes with the right outfit can either make or break a look, so be careful what goes where and when. It may seem like a narrow choice, but it’s quite the opposite. The first thing to consider, though, regardless of the shape, color and occasion is the fit. The shoes should always be tried on rather at the end of the day, when the feet are already swollen and tired. Quality and comfort should always go before trends and brands.
{7} Accessorize well
Weather it’s a pocket square, a scarf, hat or sunglasses, there’s nothing random about accessories. The infographics below can prove to be really helpful and thoughtful when choosing the right accessories and wearing them with style.

Wow! That was a master course on dressing. Thanks Kpriss.
About the “shorts session” : Am I the only one totally adoring those mid thigths ? I was briefly in Germany this Summer and men there were absolutely into that fashion.
What about USA? Netherlands? up there in Canada?
(seriously blushing) I hope it was useful… Or at least entertaining! It was nice to gather all the info and share it back with you!
As for ‘fashion’ you know I’m not the best person to speak my mind about the latest trends…. except in kidswear perhaps and school wear lolz
But I do think it all depends on the physical built of the wearer. I personally prefer the knee length .. But I wouldn’t have a solid argument against this or that other length :)
I enjoyed this guide. Very useful and I won’t be forgetting it. Did you already create a style rules guide for women?
Ana, same trend here for the fashionable men. The young and the older until around middle age that is. Though a lot of men in the last group should opt for the knee length. Basically the same idea as with skirts for us women.
Ha, lots of men should take note of this! Also women who buy their men’s clothes. ;)
Great post.
awww! Thank you ladies!
Here in Spain they are still about cargo(!!!) bermudas, believing they are the epitome of coolness. I dispair … It must be the crisis .God give me strenght…
Ana, also lots bermuda’s here of course. The same bermuda’s as I see for over 30 years!!?
Hope this helps a bit? ;) :)
Nice guide. Any suggestion for the socks part? I like to match them with the shirts, usually, sometimes shoes or pants.
