Every fashion admirer has a real appreciation for the tremendous work and talent displayed in each and all Haute Couture shows, but don’t we all love when we can replicate some of that exquisite style with tools at hand?

Surprisingly, this Fall-Winter 2014/2015 Couture season, some of the most respected and followed designers sent flat sandals on the catwalk, much to the joy of the models. More comfort, less fuss, less tumbles… and more inspiration for us, watching from home. Last season it was all about sneakers, now it’s about ribbon flat sandals and the really simple do-it-yourself guide!

DIY Chanel Couture ribbon sandals

Summer is far from over and you can actually wear these sandals and be as avant-garde as it gets since they were just on the catwalk less than a month ago! Imagined by Karl Lagerfeld, now designed by you on a budget – isn’t that a real treat? Replicating 4-figures sandals with less than $100? Giving thanks for Der Kaiser for including such comfortable footwear in his collection and for being a creative inspiration source for fashion amateurs, here goes the quick DIY guide:

DIY Chanel Ribbon Sandals Couture Fall 2014

For the DIY Chanel Couture Ribbon Sandals you need:

1. a pair of flip-flops in the color of your choice ($15.91 from Havaianas, available here)
2. black wide craft ribbon in the color of your choice (2-inch by 30 yard, $19.98 available here)*
3. beaded trim ribbon in the color of your choice (0.47inch by 1 yard $8.99 available here) **
4. scissors, measuring tape, glue gun ($13, available here)

*to obtain the bow as seen in the Chanel show, you need to cut two pieces of ribbon measuring 52inch (1.5 yard) each. Placing the ribbon on the flip-flop inner soles matching the place where your foot’s arch ends and your heel begins, use the glue gun to attach the ribbon on the flip flops.
**on some models seen on the catwalk, the beaded trimming is optional, so it’s entirely up to you if you want to add it to your DIY project or not! For the model above, you need to cut the trimming to match the flip flop’s barrettes and glue them on with the glue gun.

Simple DIY Chanel Ribbon Couture sandals

The option presented above is for the sandals with black ribbon, golden soles and golden trimming. Chanel Fall 2014 Couture was generous in shades and combos and if the example chosen here doesn’t match your look/wardrobe, you can always opt for a grey ribbon or light pink ribbon with silver flip flops or a rich burgundy ribbon with golden flip flops. There’s even a bridal option available, with an all-white sandal, white ribbon and white soles!

What’s even better, is that the ribbons and the flip-flops are interchangeable, thus creating room for endless combinations!(images styledotcom, stylefrizz)
