I really like these Steven Klein pictures even though Lara looks like she’s holding her breath (or sucking in) in most of the shots. The boring side of it is the perennial (more or less) photorealistic impersonation of BB. (the story continues right after the jump with more pictures!)

Oh, what a royal issue this Vogue Italy July 2009! It seems year after year, the July Issues of Vogue Italia are set to defy any Summer magazine standards and serve amazingly beautiful content. Chilled.

It seems that Summer is the time to shine for Vogue Italy. Last year’s Black Issue was so impressive and successful that this year was somewhat reinterpreted with The Barbie Issue!
Everybody’s talking about Barbie this year, everybody’s celebrating one way or the other. But how about Black Barbies? Shouldn’t we celebrate them too? Good thing Franca Sozzani (Vogue Italy supreme editor) thought about them and highlighted the Black Barbie in a special Barbie Issue supplement to the Vogue July with McMenamy the Legend. I was very reserved when I saw Kristen McMenamy’s photos from Vogue Italia July 2009. Photographed by Steven Meisel and supposedly being a recognition of her supermodel status, the pictures look pretty frightening.
Not because of Kristen. Or maybe because of her. But it all looks so cold, so unalive I can’t think of anything else but the undead, goth inspiration for this upcoming Fall season. Though it’s about a man, it’s not really a Men of Style worthy subject. Because he has yet to prove himself as a man of style. For now he’s just Channing Tatum.
(and yes, we still have Ellington to thank for that, she gave me the idea when she qualified Channing with a “GRRR” … I’m not sure it’s a good or a bad “GRRR” but I’m going ahead with the subject – after all, he makes her forget herself!) Channing Tatum is high in the spotlight right now, he sells tickets, DVDs, magazines. So he’s GQ’s cover story for August 2009, as photographed by Mario Testino. Elle editors must have received a directive pointing towards teen punk rock pop as the new must in fashion magazine. Women fashion magazines!
While Miley Cyrus covers Elle US, Avril Lavigne takes Elle Canada. There’s no shame in giving up to the commercial temptation, Elle should come forth and say it out loud: we’re only doing this for the money! Otherwise, portraying Avril Lavigne in their August 2009 (Canadian Edition) issue looks a bit weird… (the story continues right after the jump!)

V Magazine July/August 2009 has Cameron Diaz on the Beauty Issue cover. Get into the groove is more than just a cover line, is the very styling they got Cameron in: Madonna con bra features and fake tattoos.
Splendid at her pop art ish level as portrayed by Mert and Marcus, Cameron looks beautiful even if one would say she’s just a cover stand-in for Lady Gaga, the true star of this Beauty Issue (but that’s another story). (the story continues right after the jump with more pictures!)
