Weeks are going by, not one day is like the other but Marc Jacobs is still stuck on not taking that Dior position! After talking about it in Vogue he’s now saying it to the Telegraph. Same tune, different lyrics (please refrain yourself from raising them beautiful eyebrows but feel free to comment below! Please, bring back Galliano?):

‘…Mr Arnault is a super intelligent man and a very smart man and it was certainly a very great honour for him to know that I was capable – and not only capable but that I am someone that he would have wanted for the job. But I am very happy to be here. There is so much more left to do and building Louis Vuitton into a fashion company is something nobody else can say they really started. […] but we agreed that it was probably best for everyone.’

We’ve heard so many speculations over the last months about who is going to take the creative position at Dior that it’s finally time to start putting them behind us. One at a time.

Marc Jacobs was one of the designers who were proposed (possibly, maybe – remember we’re talking rumors in the fashion world, there’s hardly anything foggier and less credible) and, after hearing all those speculations, here he goes, officially specifying that his job is with Louis Vuitton and that’s where he’s staying! Although I tried my best to keep it short, I went on and on, copy / paste and then I realized – wait a minute – you can read the wonderful interview here! (so, if you have a minute, do spend it fashionably reading a Marc Jacobs interview from Vogue)

I love being in Paris. I love working at Louis Vuitton. I love fashion. That’s why I do it. No one’s forcing me to do this. And nobody forces anyone to buy it. It’s a real love affair. It can be difficult, like any relationship that has its ups and downs. […]

I am at Vuitton, and I am very happy there. I’ve been saying that for a long time. There have been on-and-off conversations about Dior. I don’t know; maybe someday in the future, maybe years from now, I may end up going someplace else, maybe Dior. But right now I am at Vuitton, and all that matters to me is that that’s where I am and I’m going to keep doing my thing. […]

My greatest challenge is to do something better than we’ve done the season before. The idea of couture doesn’t hold that thing for me. It’s archaic—in my opinion. I mean, I am really interested in the craftsmanship behind couture. But I can explore all that in ready-to-wear.

You may remember I used to moan and frown almost every time a celebrity was on the cover of Vogue magazine. Anna Wintour has made a way of celebrity living for her US edition of Vogue and with every new issue I’m more and more convinced that she was undoubtedly a true visionary.

When the famous Devil wears Prada book proved to be a bestseller and was made a movie (ah! The amazing Meryl Streep!), the portrait of a true FashIron Lady was laid out in the open, before our mortal eyes. Surely the most powerful woman in fashion, Anna showed a gifted eye and unmatched severity reigning chez Vogue.

And as risqué as it may sound – when the Steve Jobs biography was published, a quoted fragment I will cite from my memory said that founder of Apple was a genius but also a tyrant. I’m trying to see the truth between the lines here – all those great personalities, all those great, revolutionary individuals out there seem to be bound to a certain kind of strictness and severity most of us do not understand. And at the end of a long, hard judging day, the simple truth is that they changed the world.

Anna Wintour changed the world. She changed the world of fashion and she continues to do so with every single cover she’s greenlighting for the print. Yes! With celebrities on the cover! An overwhelming percentage of the world’s population is shaped by the media culture. History is made in the media. What else should there be in the printed media other than reflections of the very screens we relentlessly keep on watching? I’d love to hear you out on the matter, I know you have your beautiful minds all set about these issues – all I wish for is that you take it out. Right here, in the comments section! (please watch the video before, though. It’s Anna Wintour’s interview with the CBS. Fashion professionals are a delight. Always.)

The fashinternet is an odd place where you can rise to fame from complete and utter anonymity if you have the right wardrobe. Personal style stars were quickly followed by a thick fog of street fashion stars.

Fashion professionals, industry insiders, brilliant Jane Does and stylish Joe Does always dressed like the sidewalk was their catwalk. The Testinos and the Leibovitz of street fashion photography hunt their pray and catch every detail, every movement of their subjects in pictures they’re releasing onto the fashinternet waves to the delight of the avid followers. One of those perfectly stylish, absolutely fashionable individual who gets photographed season after season is Kate Lanphear who’s position at Elle (styling director, btw) is less known than her white short mane.

While praising the way the clothes are worn, Kate Lanphear doesn’t really like to ride the street fashion photography fame wave (we’ll trust that mission to AdR who puts on an entire circus for the street fashion photographers). Her street fashion experience isn’t her favorite part of the day, most definitely (there’s a very interesting interview with Kate Lanphear here)

“The street-style thing is hard for me to talk about, because it makes me pretty wildly embarrassed. I get really, really shy. It’s like hearing your own voice on an answering machine.”

Because a fashion designer has a lot of time on his / her hands, Karl Lagerfeld has joined Europe’s biggest tech conference, Le Web, to talk about (what else) his upcoming fashion label / collection. Symbolically named “Karl”, the new brand is supposed to be a more affordable approach of Karl Lagerfeld’s fashion, seriously spiced with leather and rock’n’roll charm. (although judging from the video alone, with no other information to tie things together, I’d swear it was a shampoo ad!)

Although not much was revealed about the actual collection, Karl Lagerfeld did say he carries 4 iPhones, 20 to 30 iPads and numerous iPods with him. On all times. (whaaa?). Oh, anyway, we know as much as $236, the price of a Karl leather jacket (the collection will sell exclusively online)! And we also know this: “We will make fashion and technology history.”. Consider yourselves warned!

And that is just one of the “hot” topics Gwyneth Paltrow touched with Steve Stoute during her interview for The Tanning Effect. Which I am now watching for the first time and absolutely loving!

It would appear that stiff celebrities aren’t that stiff after all – we’ve watched Angelina Jolie a while ago talking about herself and her projects and being all charming about it. Now it’s Gwyneth who stole my heart with her candid, joyful way of being. Despite of all the negativity she constantly receives be it for her looks, her singing or her web initiative.

Now about what Gwyneth said – she said her blowout is ruined the minute the kitchen heat touches the back of her neck. And, more importantly, Gwyneth talked about Vogue’s black covers and about teaching her kids to embrace a wide perspective on life, without being narrowed by race / color issues. Loved that! Go Gwyneth! Please watch the video and tell me how you felt about it. About her! (the first two parts can be found here)

“I don’t want to bemoan the fact that it should’ve happened 50 years ago, because it’s here now. And it’s like the way I see it is that I have two little kids who are understanding the world in a time when Rihanna is on the cover of Vogue, and we have a black president. So their eyes are being as if they’re experiencing the world for the first time. All of this stuff is just root — it’s normal stuff for them. And that to me is what’s so incredible.

When my daughter understood what a president was, it was a black man. It’s not like me, where I grew up with all of these old white guys one after another … Their perspective on race and everything is completely open and completely different to how it was when I was a kid.”

And while browsing here and scrolling there, I realized Angelina Jolie just had her 60 minutes on CBS. And everything stopped there!

Angelina Jolie talking about herself for 60 minutes is not something to take lightly or forget about it altogether. I actually started to watch the fragment below and found myself cut away from everything. Forgetting about the news, about what happens right now. I just sunk in that interview. I loved it! Take a look and experience it yourself!

I was doing some quality reading on the fashinternet and, among other precious gems I already shared or will share with you, I found an interesting piece of information about men fashion. About the men’s approach of all things style.

As you may suspect, men’s fashion is a tricky field, as it often needs to break though a thick crust of preconceptions and clichés. Slowly but steadily, men fashion is being democratized and the love of style is starting to spread among the men population of the world. And if you want to know some of the main differences between women’s approach of fashion and fashcommerce and men’s perspective over the same issues, according to Mr Porter’s head of sales and marketing, Mario Muttenthaler, this is all there is: (oh, and please, share your opinions about the matter!)

“With women, they know a little more what they’re looking for, and they want to make sure it’s the right fit. Men really like to be inspired or told what to wear and how to wear it. A lot of guys like to learn about other ways to wear what they have. […] Men are tactical about their purchases, while women tend to be philosophical. Women want to spend more time on a site, shopping and discovering premium original content about the brand. Men want to get to their purchases faster.”

I always try to look at fashion with a relaxed, emptied head. And my ideal vision of fashion is always about fun and joyful things, colorful sets and bright moods.

One of the world’s most renowned fashionistas, Daphne Guinness, heiress extraordinare and eccentric par excellence is looking at fashion from a very interesting perspective. Daphne is all for the pin down. In time, in place. Noblesse oblige, I guess:

“Fashion is not just about trends. It’s about political history. You can trace it from the ancient Romans to probably until the ’80s, and you can see defining moments that were due either to revolutions or changes in politics… But now we’ve been feeding on a sort of cadaver. At the moment, we’re just endlessly recycling the past.

There hasn’t been anything real since grunge. That was the last movement led by music or an art form.”

Last week, the very coveted beauty collection by Tom Ford was launched at Bergdorf Goodman. And, knowing the excessively controlling Mr. Ford, he was there for the launch. Which is perfectly normal. He is a man of fashion, a man of the world, he has to be everywhere where his name appears on a product label. And that’s why (partly) women desperately love him.

Because he appears to be a very focused man, a driven individual who knows exactly what he wants, when he wants it and how he wants it (hmmm… wait! That’s not Tom Ford? That’s my Adored Husband I’m talking about!). Although if we remember what he said a while back about him being extremely shy and introspective, all this is just the image of a perfect man he has projected out in the world. (I’ve got the real deal, not the commercial Hologram of a man. But that’s another story altogether!). In support of all written earlier, here’s a little fragment of an interview I would like you to read (here) I think you’ll find funny and interesting, perfectly for a fashionable distraction:

“I was born fifty. When I was five years old, I wanted to be fifty. I knew exactly what I was going to look like, exactly what I was going to be doing. […] I always wanted to be fifty. I never felt like a little kid. I wanted to be at my parents’ cocktail parties. I wanted to live in a glamorous apartment. […] I’m perfectly happy. I could die tomorrow.”
