There’s a little something I came across while doing the Ghesquiere piece: Alek Wek’s New York apartment! Couldn’t resist the temptation!
I really wasn’t expecting to see so many books! And surely wasn’t prepared to see Alek was painting! There’s a big, blue painting apparently made by her in one of the images (you can see brushes and cans around the room, giving away her hobby. Sure, I have no key to decrypting the painting, but I’m not here to judge, I’m here to share a piece of Alek Wek with you. It’s rare to see something that hasn’t been contaminated by professional stylists these days, isn’t it? (hit the jump to see more images from Alek’s NY apartment) (via)

Arise, Africa’s Global Style and Culture Magazine’s 10th issue features some pretty breathtaking models in honor of the World Cup. And who’s on the cover? Alek Wek, stunning as usual, in a black swimming suit. However, the inside content is not to be taken lightly as it features Aminata Niara, Gracie Cavalho, Georgie Badiel, Oluchi OnweagbaNana Kieta.
Vuvuzela much? (Arise)

As I’ve made no secret about it, Alek Wek is truly an enchanted sight for me. Thus the news of her gracing the cover of Elle Africa April 2010 is pretty significant to my ears.
Being an important issue, the one marking Elle Africa’s 14th anniversary, it only doubles the joy of seeing Alek’s amazing beauty on a magazine cover. What about that cover-question: do black covers sell? (and if they do, why can’t we have the pleasure of seeing black covers more often? And if not… well, obviously – why not?) (photo via)

Because we like her so much and because the Red Carpet needed a little something spicy, here’s the beautiful Alek Wek wearing a gorgeous Christian Dior dress (considerably shorter than the original runway version).
Needless to say what a great effect those big sequins had on her skin, the color of the dress complimenting Alek’s features. Also, she kept her jewelry to a minimal with big hoop earrings and nothing else. I wonder why she was attending this edition of the Golden Globe Awards… What do you think about Alek Wek’s Christian Dior dress? (photos via celebutopia)

A while back I found out about Helena Christensen collaborating with Kipling for a collection of luggage and large bags. Before getting to further investigate the bag matter, I caught word about yet another impressive collaboration Helena is involved in this fall: the Pirelli calendar!
Like always, the Pirelli Calendar is all about gorgeous models month after month. This year, however, is pretty special as the calendar in question is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Gathering the world’s most impressive models was de rigueur and keeping an aura of mystery around the shooting and the photographer is also part of the marketing strategy of this oh-so-special edition.
Helena Christensen, Alessandra Ambrosio, Alek Wek, Isabeli Fontana, Karolina Kurkova, Miranda Kerr – a flawless lineup for what I think would be one of the most impressive editions of the Pirelli calendar. We only got until November – as style.com revealed, to find out more details about it.

Last night it was all about the Model as Muse. Embodying Fashion but the trick is that even if some played the sure value with Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton, Versace and so on, there weren’t many pointing in the good fashion direction.
Of course, the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala started on a firm wrong foot in 2009: Azzedine Alaia’s dissing was a heavy coup on Fashion. But there’s much to learn about the Alaia affair that we may not ever be aware of. The truth (as seen from an outside, shallow point of view) is that Alaia’s creations should have been part of the exhibition and Naomi, Linda and Stephanie Seymour should have participated to the opening gala (they pulled out because of the Alaia incident). Saddened, I leave this regrettable mistake behind and get to the point. The Model point. (the story continues right after the jump with more pictures!)
