Gisele Bunchen’s Vogue Italia June 2013 Cover Real?

Gisele Bundchen also on the cover of Vogue Italia’s June 2013 issue? After seeing what Mario Testino did with her for Vogue Brazil’s June 2013 pictorial, coming to terms with the lack of imagination and innovation in Vogue’s worldwide hqs was a heartbreaking issue to deal with.

Coincidentally, also a health and body issue, just like Vogue Brazil. Except this one is said to be photographed by Steven Meisel and in a slightly different angle than the all-physical Brazilian approach. Vogue Italia’s beauty is more about pampering and body-care.

However, if you take a good look at the cover, you’ll notice, just like the nice and passionate tFS people, that the masthead is a bit uneven and overall, a sloppy Photoshop work. No word about the new cover on any of Vogue Italia’s social channels, so what say you? Is this the real deal? Would you like it if it were? Would you rather leave it on the newsstand?

I like the inside pictures , but the cover annoys me. Asian women at her feet only reafirm old sterotypes of submission and servility.
I am not sure if Franca Sozzani completely lost the contact with real world or if she uses these tricks to get people talking about the magazine.

perfectly justified observation!

I wish it were a fake one, but Gisele herself released the preview of the cover on her FB page. Now that you made that observation, I can’t unsee it ;-)

Nail bars run by Asian women are on every block in the city I live in & many people frequent them (myself included). I don’t think of Asian women as submissive servants -they are like the old guy at the newstand or the young baristas selling me coffee or the bus driver – they are just trying to make a living like everyone else – honestly.
The only stereotype I see is of celebrity power /worship & it is as boring as batsh*t!

Amen to that!!

My former comment is mainly about Jac’s last line. I am sick of it too.

I love the Asian pedicure close by. I feel more comfortable and relaxed in their shop then where I went before. Reminds me I need to make a new appointment

Jac has a point that Asian salons are everywhere. I am also used to it. These people need to eat, need to earn a living and they’re good at what they’re doing.
The thing is the way Vogue portrait this has more to do with this celebrity power/ worship thing. That’s the cliche to me here…..yaaaawwwnnn…..

I dont remember saying they shouldnt be allowed to do that work or even saying we should boycott them. Yes, they need to survive and probably you grasp the only opportunity you are given.
Just ask “these people” IF they were allowed to do other works (which sometimes they are effectively apt to do) if they would keep cleaning up our feet…
Why isnt there one single European girl doing her pedicure?

#7 Appollonia on 06.04.13 at 4:02 pm

Because the fashion world is delussional…….

Yes Appollonia, it is what I meant.
But this kind of classism is soooooo rooted in our society that we dont even see it. We are kind of “anesthetised”.
But a person in power , life Franca Sozzani , after being called so many times for her misteps ,should know better.

Sorry but if I go to a nail bar / day spa then an Asian or European girl may do the pedi / mani. I understand your point of view respectively but I don’t experience / live it & it is not because I am ‘anaesthetised’ to class. My Doctor is an Asian but my ironing lady is Anglo; the post man Samoan but the old homeless man on the corner Anglo! It is all semantics. If you want to see stereotypes then you will see them – but I have decided to leave old standards of people in the past & see them how I see / experience them. So Giselle having a pedi by Asian women is normal to me & I see no negativity here.
But I do take umbrance to the continuum of celebrity worship – that is negative to our culture – when will it end! That is what I see with this cover – celebrity worship & it is ugly.

Wow Jac, it must be amazing to live in such a culturally diverse neighborhood.
I wish we had more of it here in Europe. We are becoming more and more afraid of alien cultures . Just look what is happening in Greece, Spain, Italy and now even in the nordic countries.
I wish there were more people open minded like you around here.
I totally agree with you on the subject of celebrities.
I only ask myself if the girls pampering Giselle on the cover were all black would it be acceptable as well ? But I digress…
Thanks for your input. Very interesting.

Let’s not call it alien cultures but just different cultures. Europe is in a very bad shape and it won’t get any better soon.
It’s not just the fear for other cultures. In lots of cases often both sides refuse to except each other culture. It’s very complicated and Europe is not something created and chosen by the common people.
I don’t want to be reigned and dictated by Bruxelles as an example! The Euro brought us nothing else than misery. Alas certain people shall always blame the wrong people. Immigrants or the poorer countries. I don’t. I blame the bankers and multinationals. Privatisation of everything. Yet heard the idiotic Nestle CEO Peter Brabeck-Letmathe claims that water is not a human right and should be privatized?! Shoot him!

I just received a mail from an old Spanish friend who lives since ages in Ibiza. He escaped the poor areas of Barcelona. He also managed to get his mother out of there. He told me how life is getting harder and harder day by day very fast the last months…….

A friend is back from a holiday on Cyprus. She told how hard life is for the common people on Cyprus but at the same time she had never seen so many expensive cars owned by Russians. She called them rude and ugly….her words….

I can go on with stories like this coming from first hand.

I don’t have the solution to stop the uprising of right wing or muslim extremism. Do you? Anyone else? Cause I don’t…..
It’s very frightening to see a county like Sweden on fire. A country, just as mine, that were once role models for an ideal society.
For now we have to learn to deal with the fact that we’re gonna be less prosperous here in Europe and terrorism is going to stay and a way of life for a long time to go.
It’s hard to adjust. I am not going to lie or be politic correct.

And that’s also why this cover is unrealistic and as Jac stated it is celebrity worship and I add the lifestyle of the rich…….

ops, sorry: “alien” not alien …

#13 Appollonia on 06.08.13 at 6:47 am

ana, I am sorry, I should have known you made a type mistake!!

Further, I would like to apologise for my lenghty piece and stick to fashion…..but it’s so hard these days to separate things….very, very hard….

Anyways, have a nice weekend. :)

I am with you on this girl. It was bad wording in my post. Totally agree with all your rant.. I feel very much the same. For me it is also difficult to look things from only one dimension .
Have a nice week end you too.. enjoy the good weather ! :-)
