You gotta love the simple pleasures of the fashion editorial life: sitting back in a chair and filing through fashion media, stylish topics and then bam! something hits you: did you notice that this month’s Elle UK has an American entertainer on the cover? And that, at the same time, Elle US has a British entertainer on the cover? Yep. It’s how it works between these two Elle editions: they snag each-other their cover stars!
I’m having a hard time picking the better Elle for May 2013, so I’ll just ask you: in the left corner, we have UK’s most prodigious songbird at the moment, Adele. In the right corner, we have US’…. umm we have Kate Hudson. (I’m sorry but other than being the ‘daughter of’ and ‘fiancee of’, I can’t find something all that relevant to say about Kate Hudson momentarily. She used to be a great romcom star, except she didn’t star in any movies for a while now. And no, Glee doesn’t count.)
The US edition of Elle, at least, has a good reason for putting Adele on their cover: she took home the most prestigious awards recognizing the soundtrack value of her James Bond theme song. A slap in the face of the American Music Industry, I’m sure. And you know what they say: keep your friends close and your enemies even closer. (just kidding, I’m sure that’s not the case, everyone loves Adele!) But you have to admit, it’s a bit weird to have her on the cover and some of the biggest music stars Statesides penning love letters for Adele in the inside editorial (Britney, Katy Perry, John Mayer).
Emotional, sure, but… really?
So, what’s your pick? Adele or Kate? Ahem … Princess Kate! (wink)
