Beyonce Sings National Anthem In Black Pucci Dress, Inauguration Day

When I first heard that Beyonce was going to perform at the second Presidential Inauguration, I was a bit disappointed by the cliché presidential choice (Beyonce performed for the First Inauguration Ball too). Then again, who were they to invite to sing the National Anthem? Unapologetic Rihanna? Puhlease!

So Beyonce joined the newly sworn in President Barack Obama, the First Family and everyone else on the Inauguration Platform and, visibly nervous, mastered her emotions and her tears and started singing (you can watch her perform after the jump).

Her beautiful voice was only matched by her gorgeous, although delicate black dress designed by Emilio Pucci (following a design presented in the house’s Pre Fall 2013 Collection). She completed her look with a Christian Dior black fur coat and vibrant Lorraine Schwartz emerald green earrings and ring.

Beyonce’s nails were vibrant tangerine red and her ombre hair was perfectly bouncy, flowing down on her shoulders. But do click away and watch Beyonce perform the National Anthem, excited about the grand event! (images Getty; styledotcom)

No disrespect to Queen Aretha, no way! Beyoncé did it much better. Amazing at the end with that high note and it’s not an easy Anthem to sing as often has been proved.

I had a bit of fun the way Joe Biden looked at her. And also the look on the face of the guy in the third photo says it all. Priceless :)

I love both versions of the dress. I think the model’s version is not suitable for Beyoncé.

Beyonce looked lovely, but to be honest I preferred Kelly Clarkson’s performance of “My Country T’is of thee” ( a redux of God Save the Queen, maybe it is because I am British ; ) )

Apparently Beyonce was lip-syncing the American National anthem.
I have no idea what to make of this to be honest.

no way? I really didn’t feel she wasn’t performing live. Wow! (I was disappointed with Jennifer Hudson’s rendition of Al Green’s amazing song, honestly!)

Well, then she’s a great actress if it’s true. You gotta give her that!!

Yes, Jennifer Hudson’s rendition was almost nerve wrecking to listen to. Beyoncé did it better four years ago. That is if she didn’t pull off the same trick….??

Beyonce sang “At Last” four years ago for the Obamas as for Jennifer’s singing I like her voice and I have to commend her for singing live but then I am not a big fan of that song no matter who sings it.

Kelly Clarkson sang live though. : )

oh, I see :)
and you’re right about Kelly Clarkson, she pulled it out wonderfully. And truthfully!

I will forever remember the First Inauguration’s At Last: not long after, we went to a wedding where their First Dance was to (…. yeees, you guess it!): At Last! It was not Beyonce who was singing it, though ;)

I re – watched it but still can’t tell for sure. Heading over to YT for more angles!

Oh, my! The shame! It was officially confirmed! they say the decision has been made moments before her performance because Beyonce wasn’t feeling good? what lame pretext is that?

And the Oscar goes to……

#11 Appollonia on 01.22.13 at 2:07 pm

……and yes, I know what Beyoncé sang four years ago…..I didn’t watch the whole ‘show’ this year as I did four years ago. Probably because I’m Dutch ;)

I dont like Beyonce after Destiny s Child…
Never did. Never will. I am sorry.
YES, she sings very well.
NO, I am not jealous . Thanks God this sin (at least) is not in me.

I think Beyonce is a incredible performer but do I own any of her CDs – no. Her style is not my taste. But there is something ostentatious & ultimately offensive about rich people who show off their wealth & that is what turns me off Beyonce / JayZ – “Republician lifestyles of a born Democrat!” – it would be a best seller or reality show….

#14 Appollonia on 01.23.13 at 8:47 am

Queen Aretha forgive me, better hit the wrong notes than being a fake…

Right Jac! Why didn’t Beyoncé show up in a coat and scarf in the cold like everyone else?
After all I find this all a huge joke. The Marine Band didn’t play life either and the Obama family and everyone else played the game along……right!!

I forgot Beyoncé didn’t mind to perform for $1million at Saif al-Islam’s private party at St. Bart…..

I’m so done with all of this. Good luck USA the next two years. Then it’s all about the next elections……

Please Appolonia, dont include the Obamas in the fakery .

#16 Appollonia on 01.23.13 at 11:20 am

Why not?

#17 Ellington on 01.23.13 at 11:24 am

Really Appollonia what were they supposed to do while Beyonce was lip-synching? Get up and tell her stop!?
It was Beyonce’s choice to do what she did, just like it was Kelly Clarkson’s choice to sing live. The Obama’s did not have a say in either I would wager, why on earth would they?

#18 Appollonia on 01.23.13 at 11:34 am

Oh, I apologise I hurt some people’s feelings….
I also called it “a show”. My Dutch attitude I suppose. I am used to be allowed to be critical to our leaders and even our royals.

#19 Ellington on 01.23.13 at 11:36 am

I am as well Appollonia being British and Canadian, for we are also vocal about our Prime Minister and the Royal Family but if something is not someone’s fault then how can it be fair to place blame or be critical of them?

#20 ana on 01.23.13 at 12:09 pm

Appolonia, it is not fair to mix democratically elected governants with the parasite royals on the same dish, sorry to say.
Of course you can be as critical as you want, but baseless criticism only tends to hinder rather than serve one’s purpose in any educated discussion.
As Ellington said : it was Beyonce decision to use play back.
Yes, it was a show. Like always have been, for decades.

#21 Appollonia on 01.23.13 at 12:24 pm

I have apologized yet and not going to do twice!

I still stick to my point as long as a rich celebrity artist can make a last minute decisions like that on such an occasion as an Inauguration!
