Think Purple! London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games released the first images of the Victory ceremonies outfits and flowers as designed by The Royal College of Art students.
The inspiration for the costumes comes from the Greek mythology and British Heritage. Also, they chose purple, because, allegedly, it fits all venues (they also thought of using white, but then it tarnished so easily) – although I was convinced purple came from blending red & blue from the Union Jack flag. Silly me, the answer was in the laundry room!
The makeup is provided by Max Factor and makeup artist Caroline Barnes and the Victory flowers bouquets are provided by Jane Packer.
The Victory ceremonies count 40 Victory podium units supporting 4,400 medal winners throughout the Olympic Games.
Volunteer athletes and presenter escorts, 200 male flower and medal bearers – that’s a lot of purple!
