Real Hair In Real Fashion Magazines. Shalom Harlow From The 90s

I realize this sounds like cut – out from Chris Rock’s documentary, but I mean good, I promise! I want us all to love our God given hair! Our natural resources! And I promise one other thing : we’re beautiful, just the way we are!

Now – I came across this pictorial from a (apparently Vogue) fashion magazine circa 1997. I’ll keep the “so beautiful” comments short because I really want us to focus on the hair – This is how my hair looks like. And I bet many of you can say that. My unstyled locks are identical to those shown by Shalom Harlow in this pictorial. And normally, they’d be labeled with a “messy” attribute and I’d be advised to consult with a specialist before going out the door looking like that.

But you know what? There’s nothing wrong with your hair looking like that! Real hair, real curls are so rare to find these days, it has become an eccentricity to show them off! I’m so over curling iron curls! I’m so done with straightener’s twirls! I love my hair all natural. And if we stand tall, proud of who we are, we’ll make it fashionable again! Look at Franca Sozzani – I don’t remember seeing a single picture of her with styled / straightened hair! And she’s a Vogue editor, for hair’s sake! So? Will you join me in my natural hair crusade?

Fear not Kpriss as I’m sure you are not alone.
I have longish naturally wavy hair though not in ringlets like Shalom in the pictures but it can quite unmanagable left to its own devices. After I wash my hair very often I let it dry naturally as I do like its wavy effect.
My hair is usually center parted however sometimes I part it to the right of my face but after a wash I let my hair dry parted to the left. When its dry I comb it all to its usual right side and I have a Veronica Lake dip naturally done without the need for curlers or hot blow drying. I avoid hot hair dryers like the plague.

So dear Kpriss, your natural hair looks like that? And you are never going to complain about it anymore? You’d better!! Because that’s gorgeous hair there girl! I have done the natural hair crusade always. I have also decided when I go really gray I shall be gray! How about that? :))

Riana have you seen Kristen Macmenamy’s hair lately? Its grey and fabulous! The H&M X’mas ads with her are out on the streets of my city and she’s so beautiful in them.
*I guess we can include Kristen’s straight hair here as its naturally straight I think.*

Sure I have!! And loved it. She also did an amazing job at Viktor&Rolf’s A/W 2010/2011 show. I think I remember she’s somewhere to find here being gorgeous gray and we praised her :)

Hopes she appears here in also in these H&M ads.
