Angelina Jolie’s Vanity Fair August 2010

With a catchy cover title like “Farewell Angelina” one might walk right into the media trap set by Vanity Fair in their August 2010 issue and ask “wait, what?”. Luckily, they also added a question mark to that cover title. So we won’t really fall into it.

If my memory serves me right, this is the first interview Angelina is gracing this year. Is it? And I’m guessing also (which isn’t hard to do, after all) that it’s a marketing do, since her Salt movie is coming up soon. (which wouldn’t justify her look, recently adopted for filming her latest role in “The Tourist”, but hey, who are we to judge the marketing maneuvers of the young and the beautiful?). Angelina Jolie on the cover of Vanity Fair. Pretty dramatic look, pretty grown up attitude, I guess the “Farewell” was well placed: Farewell Angie! We will always miss you! Angelina is nothing compared to you! (if you’re interested, there’s a fragment of her interview here; photo via)

What? VF no dead celebrity cover this month? Angie & VF are in danger of becoming irrelevant.

Angie and her relevance? How often have I read ‘interviews’ with her like this one? Ange, please retire and be that happy mother at last!

Vanity Fair magazine maintains an enduring love affair with Hollywood. Actors and actresses grace the cover nearly every month. So it’s not surprising to see Hollywood’s reigning ‘Queen of Darkness’ (I mean this in the best possible way!) on the front cover. Angelina remains relevant to a mag like VF due to her A-list status in Hollywood. (It’s not like she’s on the cover of Time Magazine or The Economist)
And it’s big news to movie fans if she is declaring she’ll turn her back on acting. It’s a shame if it’s true. She’s put in some good performances – I think she has many more left in her, of course. However, good on her if she wants to concentrate on raising her family.

I went to the cinema recently and when they screened the Salt trailer the audience sniggered at the title. I wonder if this is happening elsewhere too :)

cc: what you said about Vanity Fair is true. It’s not a fashion magazine. The last VF I bought though is the one with President Obama on the cover.
Hollywood’s reigning”Queen of Darkness? It’s Santa Angelina super mom these days. Oh come on! That interview is so irrelevant. It’s her usual PR talk! I read that for years. She has like seven movies in the pipeline. So she needs her army of nannies for a long time to come. Are you sure the audience snickered just because of the title only? I did it because I saw the usual Ange stuff. There are maybe 2/3 parts I liked her as an actress that’s not that much……

When Angelina was an up & coming starlet (around Girl, Interrupted) I loved her – she ‘beat to her own drum’. All the crazy antics where such great magazine fodder. But now it is the same old shite interview after interview! For the last 5 years she has been harping on about retiring, rainbow family, Brad, blah! blah! blah! Personally I am starting to find Paris Hilton more interesting then the world’s greatest PR junkie – Angelina Joile!
Enough already!
