So I love this dress and this is why, I’m from Africa and the print of the dress is very reminiscent of of the traditional African sarongs and which is more, it’s very typical for women to wear dresses with the face of the political leaders they support in Africa or at least where I grew up, which makes me think she did not in fact wait till the last minute but that there was actually some forethought to it. I’ve been waiting a long time to see African culture seriously incorporated into red carpet gowns and it seems revolutionary.
Like any art I think, it seems stupid if you don’t consider the context. So you go girl, the world is just not ready for you!

WOW! This actress must have waited until the last minute to get a dress. All this is a bolt of material fitted to her body. I use to do this with my dolls especially Barbie. The top and bottom are the selvage with the remaining draped behind her.
I called mine the ‘Instant Dress’.
The designer must have copied me. : ) She can also recycle the material and make throw pillows.

I am a middle aged black woman and I am appalled at the young ladies choice of red carpet outfit. We will never move forward as a race unless we stop making silly decisions regarding our dress, music, our children’s names and our bitterness regarding the past.

Young lady you need a life.

IM A BLACK WOMAN….who thinks this dress is hideousness at it’s worst! Are you kidding me, Mrs Rowell? That’s the ugliest dress i’ve ever seen. She’s just trying to get publicity for herself and trying to get an invite to the White House or something. It’s not racist to think that this dress is ugly ‘cuz it is, honey….so whatever.

I think it was a brilliant concept, beautiful cut, it compliments her and she is rocking it. I personally applaud her for pulling it off. The material is known as ‘a khanga or a kitenge’ for those who are not familiar with it.

The cut of the dress suits her but I do not care for the fabric. I love Barack Obama but not this dress.
Oh and Kpriss Victoria Rowell left the Y&R so that she could focus on the book that she wrote and her charity work that she does for children in Foster care. She was a Foster child herself.
