Naomi Campbell is having a magazine-love moment. She’s having a Pop September moment but also a V #61 shot by Karl the Kaiser himself.
As much as I could dislike the Pop pictorial for being to artsy fancy and less fashion for my taste, I’m bound to like it more in this magazines photo shoot duel. Because V #61’s Stranger In Moscow is almost blasphemous. (the story continues right after the jump with more pictures!)
Photographed by Karl Lagerfeld in Moscow (is it, really?), V’s September 2009 Naomi looks too bright, too cosmetic and too much to like it. You can see her tension and her fatigue, you can see a Naomi not really in the mood for modelling. And Stranger in Moscow? was that really necessary? I know the Kaiser is trying (and succeeding at times) to be youthful and trendy, but this time he tried too much.
Pop, however, tried to be uber artsy and all I feel is sand in my eyes after looking at those granulated pictures. There’s something about the new high fashion trends trying so hard to bring SM-techniques and specifics to the catwalk and magazines light it simply feels wrong. Not everyone wants a piece of that, is clear. And those not wanting to eat the new fash-SM trend cake are far from being dusty fashioned. I proudly count myself among those who feel SM is not an art compatible resource. Which photos you like best? Pop or V? (Photos via 1, 2)
