Uma Thurman’s Givenchy Ange Ou Démon Le Secret Fragrance Ad

It’s not exactly how I imagined Uma Thurman’s next role, but commercials are a fashion chez Hollywood so bring it on: Givenchy Ange ou Démon Le Secret perfume commercial with Uma Thurman.

The song you’ll hear is signed by RoBERT (la chanteuse) and it was originally called Personne. But being selected for this Givenchy ad has brought a serious change for the song: both the title and the lyrics changed. Now it’s called Ange et Démon and the single will be available starting September 2. The Givenchy perfume ad will also be officially launched this September. So this is officially end of Uma’s Lancôme contract? (you can watch the original version of the song right after the jump)

I should, however, warn you: if you’re lighthearted after watching Givenchy’s ad, expect something totally different from this RoBERT Personne music song. Quite a surprising choice, now I completely agree and understand why the lyrics were changed!

What I find interesting after watching the two versions is the juxtaposition of the point of views being presented. The Givenchy ad is trying to sell beauty, fantasy, sex and luxury were as the song video is rather bleak and dark and melancholy in tone. It is almost alarming how different the two clips are. One is faux looking and the other realistic looking. Two views of the world.

Two different views! Worlds apart! Like the perfume.. Ange ou Demon! I do feel the French way of being tragical when artsy. Like the world is dark, evil and only the artists fell that artistic loneliness of being artsy.

Here is the translation of “Personne”

Nobody, nobody
Nobody, nobody

Nobody likes nobody
No one lost someone
Nobody is crying for anybody
Why even talk about it?

Nobody killed anybody
Nobody is died for anybody
Nobody is child of anybody
Why even talk about it?

Nobody lies to anybody
No one lost somebody
Nobody hates anybody
Why even talk about it?

Nobody said anything to anyone
No regrets
And if someone suffers
Nobody knows anything.

And if nobody is there
Both spit on me
Nobody wants me
Nobody knows
I do not want anyone
I have no sorrow
And I do not hate anyone
Because this person is nothing.

You’re welcome! It’s not the full translation but anyway you can see what is the theme of the original song !

It great for the readers too! It’s not a happy song, like I said. Then again who sings happy songs? They’re for children. They’re the ones still believing the world is better than we see/know it.

Personne, personne, personne
pourquoi meme en parler?

allons croiser les bras, fumer dans un coin!

Now that wasn’t in the song, it’s just what came to me listening to that bitter song again.

I agree! Anyway it’s not the saddest (most sad?) song I ever heard! héhé! But as the article says it’s funny how they changed the lyrics to fit well with the parfume. But I really like the Ad and Uma Thurman is great !

RoBERT made an english version of “Personne” called “Give Me Back the Birds” ont the “Princess of Nowhere” album. You can hear it on Deezer.
Have a good moment !
