I can see it now. People faced with a dilemma and going "Hmmm, oh gee, I just don't KNOW! Hmmmmmm....What would Buffy do?"

If Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Scarlett O'Hara is someone's role model, time to switch off the tv and put down the book - it's not real, girls!
By all means enjoy these novels, films and tv shows as entertainment but the great and wonderfully seductive world of fiction is not where anyone should be looking for ......

lol! I had cats all my life! I loved them furry shallow felines like nobody's business! And yes, you're right, cats vs dogs is so lame, it even gets beyond the Twilight-lame sign!

Ah please let us not get into the dogs are better than cats argument, for that is truly lame.
There are pros and cons to both animals/pets.
I like dogs and cats but I am always a tad wary of dogs due to my horrific childhood experience of them.
And by the way Kpriss... doesn't your Hermione have a cat named Crukshanks? ; )

I was hoping to get that from you - indeed, Gone with the Wind has its flaws, like I said it before, Scarlett flourishing at her own interest, no matter what. Kinda like a cat, always lands on her feet (which is why I dislike cats - their selfishness and shallowness drive me mad sometimes).

Bella. A role model? The world is really upside down! The entire soap bubble romance of the Twilight industry makes me wonder what educational and cultural basis the Twihards really have... It's something to take on the appeals of a young (or not) man who happens to be an actor (he could have been a postman for all I care, it's still a job and not the actual person) but a completely other to live in someone's fantasy - Twilight's author (I think even she can't believe the madness her soap-ish writings started around the world).

Hermione, yes.. Smart and bossy.. I liked her and found her close because it's kinda like me when I was young, in school. The years combed by bossy airs but I hope my neurons are still there ;)

(the reason I silenced myself over Buffy and her friends is because I'm not a connaisseur. I know bits and pieces but not enough to judge anything Buffy-related. I do like vampire stories, though ;) )

Ellington, I've wonderful old copy of "Gone with the Wind"! I've to admit I saw the film first and lots of times. I know Scarlett's ways but in the end other's benefits from her selfishness?
I was very young the first time I saw the film with my granny. Later on in life I noticed the racist undertones. I can't help though to still love the book and film.....
I've never watched Buffy....I can not come up with the right modern role model.:((

The film "Gone with the Wind" is one that I watch with a grain of salt. I prefer the film Scarlett to the novel version (which I studied in university) she is a strong character but the film has a lot of racist undertones and the novel is lousy with them! Scarlett is strong but she is ultimately self serving and if she does help someone it is a buy product of her wants and needs first. Helping someone for her is not the first thing on her mind.
Yes Kpriss Bella is a role model for many a young female (even some older ones too sadly) they all think she is great as she is being taken care of and loved (stalked) by Edward. They all seem to want that rather than being strong themselves. Which is why I prefer Buffy as a role model, she is flawed but she is strong, she asks for help from her friends when she needs it and she kills vamps rather than being a victim. I prefer her, she is a role model for the modern age. Hermione is smart but she is not a role model to me, she is too bossy and too much of a know it all. If I want a smart witch I will take Willow, Buffy's friend. :)

Plus Scarlett, despite her flaws, helped others to survive as well. In the end she was driven by love. Scarlett is a hero to me.

You know, I never thought Bella could be taken as a role model... I think more of Hermione than Bella to guide the young generation... As for the Twihards :D I think they should have known Gone With the Wind before praising the Cullen & Co so much. That Scarlett character was a real woman. Tough and optimistic, not a suicidal one :( Sure she had her flaws (tons of them I might add!) but she was a survivor.
