How To Lose Weight? (the Kaiser way)

It’s not the latest news flooding the Internet bytes waves, but it’s simply irresistible! Karl Lagerfeld’s wisdom is something we should hang on to. Fierce, fabulous, bananas!

For those of us (aren’t we many?) who have ever tried shading some pounds but didn’t have the right motivation, the Kaiser is lending us a helping phrase. Something so Beyond, it’s worth a Walk of Fame star! A Chanel embossed star!

“Fashion is the healthiest motivation for losing weight.”

Agree? Disagree? (you have to admit, the Chanel photoshopping is magic!) (click on the picture for a larger, printable version!) (photo via flickr)

I don’t know if I’d agree with Karl. Male fashion designers usually have their tail between their legs when they’re confronted with questions about eating disorders, and while a portion of eating disorders are obsessive (like OCD), the love-hate relationship between a woman and her body can be attributed to the unrealistic sizes fashion designers pass off as being normal.
Recently, I mistook a woman’s section in a department store as the children’s section. The Parisian labels had clothes that resembled children’s clothes than women’s clothes. All at once, I was angry, disappointed and shocked and I thought that designers, including Lagerfeld, had to be misogynists. Why I disagree with Karl? Many clothes are size 0 or ‘extra small’ and many women can never reach those sizes, no matter how much exercise and dieting, and if they do, it’ll be temporary – a losing battle that isn’t great for self esteem.
(I love how Karl photoshopped his recent images of Jerry Hall LOL)

I thank Karl for his words of wisdom. I do want to gain some weight. Now I’ve the answer: I’ve to stop liking fashion!

TR, I’m very sure there a lot of designer who are misogynists. My gay friends (one works in fashion) often declares that the gay designers wants in fact young skinny boys…….

I think we should take Karl and a lot of other designers/fashion people not too serious all the time. Dressing up used to be such fun, just joyful fun!

The Kaiser is delightfully mad and most of the insipid things he does say should be looked at as the ravings of someone who lives in a world where we don’ t live.
I agree with you TR that A LOT of designers (mostly male and gay) are misogynists. Its a form of control and power to some of them to decree to women that they are simply too this or that and must change to wear their “art”.

I agree, in a way. Just because It worked for me. I used to be overweight, to be honest I never had the will to really lose it, I never really felt the need to try. But since gaining my place at University to study Fashion Design and striving to work in that industry, I lost it. All 3 stone of it. Because it is all about looks, I don’t know if thats right or wrong, but it’s the way it is – being ‘fat’ is not going to be a selling point for myself, even if your planning on being behind the catwalk, not on it. So, I agree, probably not in the sense that Lagerfeld meant it, but Fashion is indeed an insentive for weight loss.

Another thing that works well is to remove all unhealthy foods from the house.Obviously a handful of fuit or nutscan stay, but ice cream, chips and candy ect. must go!

If I’m hungry I’ll stampede Karl Lagerfeld if he’s blocking the door to the restaurant. Karl Lagerfeld is a very, very strange person. He’s the last person I would take advice from besides which, he never looks like he is having any fun. Life is for living and enjoying – fashion, food, whatever! As we all know, fashion doesn’t ONLY look good on thin people. If anyone disagrees then perhaps they’d better tell Beyonce, Kate Winslet, Salma Hayek, Jessica Biel, J-Lo and all the other glamazons out there.
Yeah right!
