Elle Perfume By YSL: Anna Selezneva Kate Moss Copycat

Seeing Anna Selezneva advertising for Yves Saint Laurent had such a terrible déjà vu, I have to question my Kate Moss likeness. Maybe the fashion consumers of the world have to have a Kate Moss in every models generation.

Kate Moss from YSL Spring Summer 2008 Manifesto looks so much like Anna Selezneva (or the other way around, putting things in a chronological perspective) you’d ask yourself why work with Claudia Schiffer or Naomi Campbell if Kate Moss is the YSL woman? (the story continues right after the jump)

Anna Selezneva Elle YSL Ad Campaign

First advertising for YSL Elle Perfume was the electrifying Coco Rocha. She was chosen to attract younger perfume consumers with a modern, urban fragrance with a stint of masculine. YSL Elle was launched at the end of 2007 and didn’t impress the reviewers who were rather disappointed with Yves Saint Laurent initiative to please the crowds.

Seeing Anna doing such a perfect La Moss for the same perfume I could consider the campaign’s photographer, Terry Richardson, one of the reasons for her styling. Is Kate Moss the YSL model par excellence? Who’s your favorite YSL Elle perfume girl? (photo tfs via fc, rem2)

I like Coco she looks lovely.
Anna looks like a drag queen doing Kate.

Have we all our blazers ready to wear in our clostes fresh cleaned out off the boxes by the way?

Ouch…..I haven’t never ever noticed this YSL Elle perfume and neither the ad campaigns….Both ads look cheap and crowd pleasers to me indeed. Anna doesn’t look interesting at all so I go for Coco who does smile!
Brrr, that bottle is ugly and not at all Yves Saint Laurent…..I know, it is a brand now, the man is gone…..but he is a hero to me…..

The name only: Elle…..bah!

P.S. Not her biggest fan but to me Naomi is THE YSL woman!

Ellington, you’re right, she does look like a drag queen! ;)

Adriana, fact is I’m a fan of those smokin’ smokings! I’m searching for one, in fact… just because it’s so beautiful. Wish I could afford the original (or better said, wish the original was more affordable…).

Absolutely completely agree! Naomi is the YSL woman!

I don’t know Adriana, I am not a fan of drag queens/drag kings.
I find them a tad offensive, I liken it to when white people would put on “Black Face”, in minstrel shows to imitate and mock Black people which was gross and ignorant. I don’t find it to be a compliment, but each to their own.

I really don’t think drag queens/kings are seeking to mock women/men. I have always looked upon the drag queen phenomenon as a sort of flattery and a tribute to women. It’s quite cool that gay men want to dress like us and behave in a feminine way – it serves to remind us how lucky we are to be women and how limitless our fashion options are.

And drag kings can look hot! A lot of lesbian women look really attractive in their masculine fashion stylings. Look at kd lang and Ellen Degeneres – they look great !

As for this YSL campaign – I love the ads – I adore masculine tailoring for women – I just hate the fragrance itself
