Marc Jacobs Fall Winter 09/10 Collection NY Fashion Week

What do you do when your inspiration cowardly leaves you in the middle of an economic crisis?

Marc Jacobs turned to bloggers and the eighties. I haven’t seen such a mish-mash of trends, colors, styles and fabrics since I last visited a flea market! (and that was a loooong time ago!) (don’t miss the rest of the pictures and the full fashion show video right after the jump!)

He started nice and easy with a gray silhouette, classic straight cut pants with a cardi, nothing shocking. But behold! Pink and grass green ahead with football shoulders and hideous Sprouse-ish leggings. Lady Gaga’s leotards-no-pants-just-tights fashion was featured in the show also. The hair style was mimetic, taking the clothes shape.

Take your mamma’s closet, your grannie’s rusted scissors, some thrifted goodies and your laptop connected with la crème des day-by-day style bloggers and you’ve got yourself the Marc Jacobs Fall Winter 2009-2010! I continue to be amazed by the fashion editors who don’t dare to bring out their true colors, striving to see an unnamed ray of good in this collection…(you can read the review in the link below, the Time review by Kate Betts here and The New York Times’ Cathy Horyn here) God Forbid, if they don’t get invited to the next show?!

Good news? Velvet’s back on track, scarves still go strong! Would that make people feel safer in such challenged times? (you can see all the pictures from this Marc Jacobs collection here, the music from the show is signed by Spinnerette and you can hear some of it here, the show starts with Valium Knights)

Note to myself: I had such a hard time choosing the models I liked the most, I’m definitely suspecting something fishy going on with Marc Jacobs’ designs. Detestable mais so chic!

C’est damage. : (
Nothing really cohesive just a bit of something for everyone I guess?

i make fun of his pieces often, but i do like that he has fun and isnt afraid to be weird and loud

The 80’s? I agree with Ellington on this collection. That’s exactly what I thought. Haven’t read any review yet.

Deka, Mark is weird and loud? Yes, that’s why he wears that skirt and boots like Axl Rose lol! So late 80’s! Looked better though on young Axl.

Hmm, scarves and hats still going strong does make me feel “save” yes. For many different reasons.

deka, to be honest, I don’t really feel the loud-ness of this MJ collection. The colors? There’s nothing loud about that, it’s just Grace Jones-y. The gray and graphics? Hardly. The only striking thing (besides the great music!) were the hair styles (of course, I’m opened to digressions!)

Ellington c’est tres damage! lol! love it! You should send it to the Kaiser, he’ll instantly make a hit out of it!

Adriana (I never get tired of admitting that!) I have a serious scarf condition. People would call it addiction ;) Long live the scarf!
